Hi, It has always been my understanding that by default it is off but others disagree. I has in fact cost me time troubleshooting. Re: IP routing is enabled by default on Cisco 2600's [7:1821]
In my experience, I have yet to see a brand new router that did not have IP routing enabled by default. In addition, all the documentation I've read in the past seems to suggest that IP routing is on by default. I won't even begin to guess why you would have received new routers with IP routing turned off. An easy way to test this is to erase your startup config and reboot. If IP routing is on when it reboots, there ya go. If it isn't, Cisco needs to update their documentation. :-) My $.01 (after taxes) John Tony van Ree 4/26/01 12:15:08 AM Hi, It has always been my understanding that by default it is off but others disagree. What IOS were they running? Did they prompt you for configuration on boot, or already seem to have a config? If so, use 'enable' and then 'erase startup-config' and see if it's not enabled by default. I have never had to enable it on a router fresh out of the box in my short two years with Cisco gear. -- Jason Roysdon, CCNP+Security/CCDP, MCSE, CNA, Network+, A+ List email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://jason.artoo.net/ Colin wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]...
