RE: Catalyst 6500 Alteon [7:10895]
Explanation This message indicates that the native VLAN is different from the one set on at least one of the neighboring ports; [dec]/[dec] is the module number/port number of the offending port. Action Check the native VLAN settings. If the VLAN configuration does not match, set it appropriately. If no apparent mismatch is found, contact your technical support representative. Looks like the VLAN on the Cat6500 is not the same as the VLAN on the Alteon. Re: Catalyst 6500 Alteon [7:10895]
Ralph, I've gotten this message before myself. It occurred when the two ports that made up a trunk link had different native VLANs. Changing the native VLAN of one of the ports to match the other allowed the trunk link to come up. I Imagine that your situation is likely quite similar. just check what VLANs the ports belong to and make sure they match. Re: Catalyst 6500 Alteon [7:10895]
You need to worry about native vlans if you're doing 802.1q trunking. It is trying to talk CDPv2 to the Alteons and probably expecting something back. Just turn off CDP since you won't need it with Alteons anyway. At least I don't think so, unless Alteons do 802.1q trunking. If they do, then probably it expects native vlan 1 or something. Make sure your trunk to the device is on vlan 1 or whatever the Alteon is set to. Turn off trunking, change port vlan to 1, and then turn trunking back on.
