That's the view that I am going to take when studying for my CCIE. I don't
want to know only 'what' they are going to test in the labs, but rather I
would like to say I would want to know everything (a tall order indeed)
including outdated stuff like TR, etc as I feel that the only way you become
a network god  :)

I would prefer to exert the maximum effort for the minimum gain in this
instance. My only fear is that I wonder if the CCIE designation is going to
devalue itself. But that's just a personal fear and my 0.002 cents (South
African currency kinda low at the moment)

mentioning it, even though it's not on the exclusion list. Just wondering

Chances are you will not get it, and if you do, it won't be too deep,
according to CCIE powersession in San Diego.  I'd recommend  knowing the
basics and configure everything a few times.
