Re: Password [7:2793]

2001-05-01 Thread Jason Roysdon

Also, to change the telnet password on the PIX it's 'passwd'.

Regarding 'enable password' vs. 'enable secret' on a router: enable secret
is a md5 hash and can't be reversed (could be broken with a dictionary
attack if you pick weak passwords). 'enable password' and all the other
Cisco 7 passwords other than 'enable secret' (which is Cisco 5) are stored
on a router are done in a weak hash that can easily be reversed.

For that reason, your enable secret should never match other passwords on
your router, and physical security is everything when every script kiddies
knows how to break into a Cisco router:

At the enable prompt, type in "config t". The command to modify the enable
password is "enable password ".

This is on Pix 4.2(4)

Remember that the router has an "enable secret" password that takes
precedence over the enable password (which is almost never used).

Re: Password [7:2793]

2001-05-01 Thread andyh

enable password "password"

en is ambiguous between "end" and "enable" - routers take the command
without complaining, but don't change the password. This has caught me out
before on routers, be interested to know if it affects the PIX also.
