Re: CSMA/CD [7:41105]
It's not in an RFC. It's in IEEE 802.3. You can get the IEEE specs here: http://standards.ieee.org/getieee802/ They aren't very easy to read, though, and finding info in them is difficult. There's no index. ARGH. ;-) In the meantime, be sure to check out Charles Spurgeon's Ethernet Web Site here: http://www.ethermanage.com/ethernet/ethernet.html and WildPackets Technical Compendium here: http://www.wildpackets.com/compendium/main/ and my paper on Ethernet Troubleshooting here: http://www.certificationzone.com/ Priscilla At 05:38 PM 4/10/02, Brian Zeitz wrote: Does anyone have any good links for CSMA/CD, I want to really understand the process of collisions. Re: CSMA/CD [7:41105]
Go right to the source: http://standards.ieee.org/getieee802/ There is no RFC, per se. IEEE created the standard. -- RFC 1149 Compliant. Re: CSMA/CD [7:41105]
Since ethernet csmacd are somewhat incidental to the evolution of the Internet (which responds to such technologies based upon their success or failure rather than any necessity-based dependencies), you might be better served by the content found in different forums, such as priscilla's certzone paper, the wildpackets/oed compendium, the IEEE 802.3 PDF (made freely available less than a month after I bought it) or any of charles spurgeon's online work at the university of texas website. A number of RFCs describe ethernet, but I haven't found any that cover the level of detail you seem to be looking for (disclaimer: I'm only on # 1287). - Original Message - From: Brian Zeitz To: Sent: Wednesday, April 10, 2002 5:38 PM Subject: CSMA/CD [7:41105] Does anyone have any good links for CSMA/CD, I want to really understand the process of collisions.
