How about attaching a break-out box and connecting an oscilloscope to the clocking signal. Chances are I'm not being too helpful here am I? I assume that this is a serial interface with no integrated CSU/DSU, and in that case the only way that I know of to tell the speed is to look at the external CSU/DSU and find out how many timeslots are configured.
