Re: books on security specialization
Having taken the MCNS 2.0 beta exam, I can tell you that the test I took was short on theory or design and very long on configuration(85-90%). Most of what you need to know you can find in the Cisco Press Reference Library book "Cisco IOS Network Security" ISBN 1-57870-057-4. Tailor your study to the objectives. Also, Chuck's recommendation to check out PIX configuration material from Cisco's web site is a good one. I don't know if these books are specifically for the exam, but I have 2 books on Cisco Security. The first is Cisco Security Architectures (McGraw Hill) Second is Cisco IOS Network Security (Cisco Press) Both books are excellent, btw. Re: books on security specialization
They have improved some. I was just commenting to myself that their current release of BCMSN seemed to be bug free then it crashed on one of the practical exercises. If you're paying for them what I am (i.e., business has a contract, and I'm not), they're pretty good. They're worth the time it takes to go through them, and finding the mistakes emphasizes the material. Worth what I paid for it, at least :) Joel Studtmann - Original Message - From: Chuck Larrieu To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, August 16, 2000 9:11 PM Subject: RE: books on security specialization Unless SmartForce offerings have improved substantially since the last time I looked - March or so - I wouldn't bother. I'd like to see a more detailed discussion on the Pix (that's what I use now). When I was first learning the Pix all I had was the manual and CCO and I believe both are a little light. I dunno...guess I'm just used to the seemingly 4 billion books on everything else Cisco... -Original Message- From: Chuck Larrieu [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, August 16, 2000 9:17 AM To: Montgomery, Robert WARCOM Contractor; Alfred Saulo; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: books on security specialization Probably because all the security specialization is, really, is a bit of Cisco's idea of security policy and then the rest is hands on work with Cisco equipment.
