RE: new CIT [7:47777]

2002-07-02 Thread Dan Penn

At my old job we had pairgain HDSL stuff. They would do anything from
64k on up to 4096 (2 loops on 2 pair). So, yes, you could have 24 ds0's
on one pair of copper.

Historically, T1 and E1 are different from HDSL. However, they now use
HDSL in the US to provide 24-channel circuits on a single pair of
copper, as compared to the two pairs used for the traditional T1. I
wouldn't be surprised if a similar situation occurs with HDSL and E1.
Unfortunately, it's been four years since I worked with loop
technologies, so I can't guarantee accuracy. Anyone else out there
who's currently supporting HDSL?

RE: new CIT [7:47777]

2002-06-30 Thread Mark Odette II

Ashir, I could be wrong, but I think an E1 circuit and an HDSL circuit
are two different things!

To support HDSL circuit though, a quick search on CCO for HDSL turned up
the Cisco 1401 and 1417 xDSL Routers. The 1401 has an "ATM25" jack-
which I think is just a 6-pin telco phone-jack connector, and the 1417
has a standard RJ-11 jack.

I could be wrong on this too, but I think these two units take their
telco service off of a single copper pair... or at least that's what the
unit with the RJ-11 jack indicates.

Cheers,

Mark

2002-06-30 Thread Mark Odette II

They haven't reduced them by any means

I took the exam and unfortunately failed this last Saturday. I'll be
retaking it on Tuesday.

I failed because of several instances of the questions being worded
funny... and I didn't realize until I was hitting the button that
I had just chosen the wrong answer, while knowing at the same time that
I just realized what the correct answer was. Veryyy frustrating.

I think if I had taken my time a little more, rather than worrying about
running out of time, I probably would have done better too. I walked
out with 18 minutes left on the clock. I know for some this probably
would have been / is a breeze, but I haven't taken cert exams since
December of last year, so I'm a little rusty on the "test taking mode"
of thinking.

Anyway... without breaking NDA, I can only say that they still ask quite
a healthy list of questions covering ALL of the topics. Nothing was hit
on more than others. For someone who doesn't work with Appletalk and
Novell regularly... it can be a real trial on the nerves. :(

Good luck on your exam!

Mark

Well, per the new NDA, I won't really be able to say much about it after
words. But I know this much, basic routing functions are
testable...stuff like what can go wrong, network statements etc.

I'm taking it Friday or the week after. I hope you'll post a review
after you take it Wednesday. The Big Question I have is: Are they
testing on routing? We had three in-depth routing chapters (EIGRP,
OSPF, BGP) in the troubleshooting part of the Cisco Academy (Semester
8) but there doesn't appear to anything like that in the description
of the 640-606 test other than the issues one would be expected with
TCP/IP, IPX and AppleTalk.

Good luck!
