Yes, I did try it (both vijay's email address and his script), and it doesn't appear that the script was working (even though clam is stopping viruses and logging this fact to /var/log/messages), vijay's script does not show these numbers. I did email vijay as well. I originally posted here (this thread) looking to see if anyone has had better luck with other scripts that display this type of output. I'm still working with the one vijay wrote trying to figure out what I'm doing that is not correct. Has anyone found a reporting tool that will do this and had good luck with it? A few years ago I wrote a graphical reporting tool to count spam hitting my account. It did quadratic and exponential fits to the data. The goal was to prove to a friend that spam wasn't really increasing exponentially. When we added clamav to our setup, I started reporting data on that too. Got all sorts of plots available at http://www.itg.uiuc.edu/~menscher/ The plots are generated nightly by a cronjob. If there's interest, I can see about making the script available. It's just a bash script making use of grep|cut|awk|sort|uniq|gnuplot|wc html. I'd have to pull out our system-specific stuff and try to make it more readable. Right now it's probably only readable by me, and only if I'm lucky. [snippage happened] My original question was also to cinfirm that the format of the output done by clam hadn't changed since that script was written. I haven't been using clam very long, and didn't know if vijay's script was still valid. Vijay's script examines the clamav.conf file (to give you some sense of it's being behind the times) rather than clamd.conf. An easy fix, tho. It discovers the location of the clamav log and pulls out information regarding found viruses by grep'ing for FOUND. I didn't kill a lot of cycles looking at the code but I expect it will need manual input if you use syslog. Another easy fix. First GoTo I've seen in years. So if you know where your clamav log is, just tell it when it asks, I guess. There's a lot of code in there that could be replaced with a LOGPATH=... var. I didn't see anything that would require a trip to CPAN to make it work. The code rambles some and could use a re-write to clean up the readability, but hell, it works apparently. The output is quite informative. -- Sam Morris, Owner Loganet Internet Service Logan IA, United States of America 712-644-3578 ___ http://lurker.clamav.net/list/clamav-users.html ___ http://lurker.clamav.net/list/clamav-users.html
