[CMLHope] Hey there

2018-02-19 Thread 'Jeanie' via CMLHope

Hey Joyce
Wow! You have really been through the mill. So happy you made it through. You
and I are about the same age and that it the reason I never pushed for surgery.
Sounds like you are well on the way to recovery.
I would have it done if I could get up the nerve. I have been in the hospital
but no doctor ever pushed for surgery.
We are warriors and MArty is our faithful leader so let's just keep fighting a
good battle.
Do you have to go to the dr much Marty?
I go every three months to Moffitt and a couple month to my PCd.
I pray Joyce that all will be alright. Are you bed ridden ?
Keep fighting.

Re: [CMLHope] Hey there

2018-02-19 Thread Marty Gartenberg
Hi Joyce,

First, believe me i am honored that you think of me as your faithful
leader, but i am not because WE are all our own faithful leaders. With only
one there is none.

Okay to answer your question I don't only go to one doctor because it is a
singular rather a
plural meaning a multipal amount of doctors which is what i go to. Most of
which are not only my doctors but my friends as well. I even learn from
them and they also learn from me as well.

This is our relationship as well. I'll tell you a story. When i had to go
through dialysis one of my doctors that used to tend to me was always
asking me while i was taking dialysis "Marty if there is anything that i
can do for you then all you have do is ask me" Now those were his actual
words.

And you know what I said? My dear Dr. H** would you kindly give me one
of your kidneys. For some reason he never asked me again, but we still see
eachother any time that i am in the hospital because he makes it his
mission to always help me, and for this he and i always like to see
eachother.

When my fistula in my arm started to fail most of my doctors got together,
including
Dr. H* and wrote letters to the governing society of organ translation
unbeknownst to me and in less than two weeks i was notified that there was
a suitable kidney donor for me and it all history behind me.

In another instance my Pulmonary doctor found that i had a very severe case
of Phenomena and immediately drove me to the hospital herself.

Going back 30 years when i finished with my BMT while all of the bills came
in there were two that said they were writing them off because of what i
did to help them. These are the doctors that i'm speaking of. Now you know
why my doctors have many times helped save me.

Don't ever be afraid to go to a doctor because they are here to help you.

This is the kind of relationship that i have with my doctors.

18's,

Marty

Jeanie,
I am doing very well since I got home from the double surgery and dealing with
the blood clots. I am not bedridden. I get around pretty well but have
trouble with my knees.
We truly are warriors. And Marty is our cheerleader!
I wish you all the best.
God bless and keep you.

Hi Joyce
How do you take care of blood clots and what do they look like? My chemo
Causes blood clots and was recalled because of this and causing heart attacks
and HP. I take aspirin with mine and have had HP most of my adult life. hP
meds gives me heart pain so I just do the best we can.
Let's all remember Millie in our prayers. She was a brave warrior. She said her
pee had turned black and she had a sore on her foot wouldn't heal. Of course
anyone from this list who stays in your heart and this list was your basic
contact. Millie could really cook and she would give me recipes. I told her
it was strange I'm from Fl and she's from PA and we still love same of same
foods. She lived to cook and freeze for later.

Re: [CMLHope] Hey there

2018-02-22 Thread Marty Gartenberg
Hi everyone,

As usual i did a lot of research on blood clots because i had a stroke
several years ago. I would like to send you some of the research that i
came upon. Also after the stroke i developed A-fib and i am now doing well
with my medications, including Apixaban commonly referred to Eliquis.
There are others as well (see below) These tend to try and avoid blood
clots but there are some that may suit your needs.

For-instance if you are using Warfarin (Coumadin) you will have test your
blood on a weekly basis just so you know there is a meter , and if you eat
green salads especially lettuce and any other green leafy vegetables they
contain Vitamin K which may interfere with your blood clotting abilities.

However if you eat the same amount of green salads then since the Vitamin K
levels more or less remain the same level then you needn't worry to much
about that aspect. Oh yes if you get a sever cut or wound there is
treatment for that, Vitamin K and some other things.

If you are on some of the others then if you get a cut or wound it will
take a lot longer to stop bleeding and if it a severe cut or wound you may
need to do to the nearest hospital and possibly get blood plasma but in
either case the effects of the most of the other blood thinners usually
last for about 18 hours. But some of the newer ones have an antidote so
that is on the horizon for most of them and there are a few of them with
antidotes.

Now i am not talking about a minor cut or wound so you shouldn't worry to
much about that in fact i do get some cuts in my daily life and they
usually stop within 30 seconds or so. Just so that you are aware of it. So
now you know the good and the bad of it but you have to consider all of the
benefits. If you tend to have clots and your not on any blood thinners then
you may be at risk for a stroke or heart attack.

By the way you should speak with your doctor because he or she will guide
you in the right direction, and who knows taking a daily baby (81mg)
aspirin may be warranted if at all you even require it or even if you need
it. That's why i am telling you to see your doctor for more information.

I have put together an article about blood thinners, I am sure that if you
need any of them then you may want to read this..
https://medlineplus.gov/bloodthinners.html

Now moving to a comment that you left Concerning Lottie. I was a very close
and good friend of hers and i was so saddened when she passes away. I kept
this in my heart even today. And let me tell you why.

Every time that we spoke to eachother i found out that she was devoted to
basically three things in her life, one was her mate Jimmy for many years
then her second donation to her life was that if she found out that someone
needed any information about their illness or many other things she would
sometimes stay up at night and find it for them. And finally she was just a
GOOD person that had to try helping anyone.

Even though we worked together we both had or have the same character in
us. We were so close that i made a name for calling her Mommy Lottie, and
just about everyone loved it whenever i call her that... Hum, except two
people that used to be on here but vanished once i heard that they actually
made her cry one time as far as i know. I would never stand for that, and
you already know that i am not a mean spirited person but in their case i
made sure to take care of business for her because she was about to leave
this site, how awful that was for her, as i remember.

Also not to forget her cooking... My wife and her used to swap recopies
with her and me as well, i just love southern style of cooking and believe
me she was the queen of that. So now that you know more about her, as least
some of you old time survivors you already know exactly what i'm taking
about and as for you very nice "new-bees" now you also know what makes
people like this who give their hearts out. Remember life is a learning
process.. Never stop learning because you will carry it for the rest of
your life. If you should forget something along the way you will eventually
remember it especially if it is important to you.

*Commonly prescribed include:*

   - Rivaroxaban (Xarelto)
   - Dabigatran (Pradaxa)
   - Apixaban (Eliquis)
   - Heparin (various)
   - Warfarin (Coumadin)

18's,

Marty

Beautiful slideshow, Marty. Thank you.
Have not been on this site for 3 weeks. Went to ER with gallbladder attack and
they did a CAT scan and noticed that my old hiatal hernia that has been bugging
me for some 20 years had twisted, and evidently that is a very bad thing,
because they put me in an ambulance and sent me from our local hospital to
BarnesJewish in St Louis and said I would have emergency surgery as soon as I
got there. That didn’t happen but I was in the hospital for 3 days as they did
test upon test. I went home for 3 days and had surgery on Monday the next
week. Had gallbladder removed and hiatal hernia was repaired. I was doing
very well and planned to go home on Wednesday when my oxygen levels went down.
Long story short: I had blood clots in both lungs and one in my right calf.
Was in hospital for 8 days and came home using belly shots of Lovenox to bridge
to warfarin. Am doing better and gaining strength. Had to eat pureed food for
2 weeks. Now on soft diet. It was a trying time because I am the caregiver
for my husband who has CML and is also legally blind. But we pulled through
with the help of our two daughters. I’ll have to get caught up on what went on
while I was out of commission.

Re: [CMLHope] Hey there

2018-02-22 Thread Joyce Mesnarich
I was in the hospital when I got the blood clots. I had a slight sore spot in
the calf of my right leg. It was not hot or red like I have read. My symptom
was low oxygen in my blood, found because I was on monitoring devices. I was
not short of breath and I felt fine. They did many tests and finally found
that I also had blood clots in both of my lungs. Then I was given intravenous
blood clot busters and put in a higher observation part of the hospital. I
stayed in the hospital an extra 4 days because of these clots. When they
finally turned me loose I had to give myself shots in the stomach of lovenox
twice a day until the warfarin they started in the hospital got to a certain
number. I think I just have to have faith that they are dissolving. They
haven’t said anything about any further tests. I will have to be on warfarin
for between 3 and 6 months. Doctor has not made that decision yet.
