Re: Stus-List TRANSOM LADDER FOR SAILBOAT 5 STEP STAINLESS STEEL

2012-07-27 Thread Russ & Melody

Hi Rich,

Thanks for having a look.
So now I see, the 5 step will allow the bottom step to be well below
the surface. Good thing.

I had to get my head around the Binnacle site images... the detail
ones are upside down!

Re: Stus-List Pulpit wanted for 35mk III

2012-07-27 Thread Morgenstern, Keith E CIV SEA 08 NR
I think that "Tops in Quality" made the original. They are still in
business, and I bet they still have the figures/specs.

Even if they don't have the original specs figures, they have a pretty
good measurement form to make a custom one.

I had them make a rear pulpit for an older boat I had (it never had one
before), and it came out perfectly and fit correctly.

They shipped it by truck.

Subject: Stus-List Pulpit wanted for 35mk III

Long story but two nights ago a boat in Dering Harbor broke loose and
smashed into my pulpit. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement ?
Does South Shore (is that the correct name) have them?

I am sure that others have been through this before. Is there any chance
of structural hull damage from such an accident? None is visible from
the outside

The collision also caused some deep ish scratches through the already
old awl grip. Any thoughts in what I could reasonably ask the insurance
co (his or Shelter Island Yacht Club) to pay for (a new awl grip job
would be wonderful but I think unlikely!)

Re: Stus-List Android as chart plotter

2012-07-27 Thread jtsails
Steve,
I played with the old version of the navionics app on my droid phone. It didn't
have all the features that you would need to use it exclusively instead of a
"real" gps. It was also a little buggy and locked up occasionally. The
discontinued that version (and orphaned the users) when they came out with the
new version. The new one is suppose to be a big improvement, but I haven't
messed with it. BTW, I use my Garmin 76cx exclusively on my boat, and actually
preferred it to the big RAymarine unit that was on my recent charter in St.
Martin. Down there, I used the big Raymarine as a chart and did all of my
course plotting and navigating on the little Garmin. Part of that preference is
probably just that I am familiar with the Garmin and have never messed with the
Raymarine units very much.

Hi All. The google nexus 7 is out and it has built in GPS that does not rely
on any cellular data (Google Nexus does not have any cellular hardware, it's
wifi only). It runs the latest version of Android. There are several marine
navigation apps, none that I have any experience with. I was wondering if any
listers have used other Android tablets as chartplotter substitutes and what
your experiences were like? The Google Nexus is $209 for the 8GB and $259 for
the 16GB (at least those are the prices up here in Canada).
I'm tempted to get one but I just bought a Garmin handheld, the 76cx. I'm
disappointed in it because it feels like ancient history compared to my iPhone
but I needed a "real" GPS unit.

For what its worth, my 35/3 has a 4 step. The bottom 2 are below the

Re: Stus-List TRANSOM LADDER FOR SAILBOAT 5 STEP STAINLESS STEEL

2012-07-27 Thread Rich Knowles
I'm looking at the ladders as I write. They are made of very sturdy 316
stainless steel and the stand off legs are completely adjustable between the
rungs. I think you would have to work very hard to bend them at all On the 5
step model the legs can be set anywhere fin 8" to 17" below the pivot. On the 4
step unit, they can be anywhere from 5-14 " below the pivot point. Both have
the mounting pads 11" apart. The 5 step unit's bottom step is 48" below the
pivot point and the 4 step is 35".

I'll stand by a bit. Lemme know if you needier info.

Can the stand-offs be moved? It seems to me
that they should be lower than pictured,
otherwise the ladder is going to bend. I

raced. I haven't introduced the GF to sailing yet. She's having minor
surgery so I won't be getting her out until after Labor Day. Maybe we can
