Stus-List LED Dimmer control

2013-12-24 Thread Rich Knowles
For those installing LED lighting on the interior, check these out. I just
ordered a couple of each, so have no report on performance, but the specs look
good. The dimmers should also act as a voltage stabilizer and reduce or
eliminate light output fluctuations as the source voltage changes due to
charging etc.

Joel,

Wish I could make it. I skied Sunday River a few years ago.
One of my few trips east.

It would be nice to have a CC ski rendezvous. This year is
booked but next year is definitely doable if we plan early. I'm in
Keystone, A-Basin next week, then Telluride and Durango couple weeks
later and finally Whistler, BC)

Would like to start gathering a list of CC owners who are
interested. Please reply to me and/or Joel so we can determine who the
skiers are.

Whistler might be an interesting choice because of the number of
listers nearby.

All,

Last year there was some discussion of a ski trip. I
had hoped to go out West this year, but I am settling for a trip to
New England 2/15 - 2/17. My current plan is to go to Sunday River, but
if there is a group interested in joining me, the location could be
changed. Sunday River only accepts weekend reservations that include a
Friday night. Because I need to be home for Valentine's Day, I am
booked at a nearby inn.

Please let me know if you are interested.

I have the SP unit on Mojito. There is no pump and therefore nothing to inhale

construction (not bronze). It has it's own zinc, which I have not had to
replace over two seasons, so no issues yet. It works very well in LIS, and

I looked hard at the heat rejection issue because the water temperature on
the bayou where I keep Touche' can exceed 85 F at times. I'm thinking the
refrigerant is 220-250 F in the heat transfer coil in the thruhull. That's
quite a bit of temperature differential for heat rejection.

I like the idea of no cooling fan or cooling water pump for both energy and

Pete,

I'll look the next time I'm in Hampton. Originally I had two Rolls wet
cell batteries, 330 AH total capacity. They barely fit into the well under the
aft cabin bunk. The were strapped in, but I couldn't get the battery box tops
on and secured. Topping off the center cells was a bear. After the lightning
strike, I replaced them with AGMs which were lighter and shorter which
facilitated getting the bunk baseboard to fit level in its inset.

BTW, one of my concerns with the reefer was the water cooling issue. I see
those jellyfish in the water and I wondered if the SP action would suck them
in. Glad to see my concerns were well founded.

allen, Hi,
I have the Cold Machine [Adler/Barbour] in my 30. It's air cooled, and
I've had no problems with it in the 10+ years I've owned Siren Song.
It was installed by PO.
It is located under the port settee, directly in front of the galley sink.
It's vented on the right just above sole.
Because it's air-cooled, it probably adds to the cabin temps, but I don't
think it's material.
I'll freeze a gallon jug of H20, put it in the box, and turn on the frig.
This gets everything cold quickly without a lot of melting ice.

FWIW, a cruising friend of mine has a water-cooled unit [Grunnert, I
think]. While the unit does a really good job, we had lots of problems this
past season with blockages mainly due to jellyfish [the cockroach of the
Chesapeake!].

So, I'd go with air cooled unit.
As far as ampacity, I have 2 house batteries, and 1 start batt., but it's
probably 50% of your capacity. I usually leave it off unless I'm plugged
in, or motoring.
I'm curious what brand of battery you have, and did you have to modify the
aft cabin space?? I'd like to increase my amps.

There's a small scene in Dickens' Christmas Carol which usually doesn't make it
to the play or movie, (there's a 1951 movie version which does have it,
however); ion this scene the Ghost of Christmas present is showing Scrooge how
Christmas is kept and celebrated all over the world; he takes Old Ebeneezer our
to sea where a crew on a sailing ship toasts each other and Christmas;

so, that's my Christmas wish for all of you, either now or sometime later this
year, somewhere out at sea, give a toast to each other and to the true spirit
of Christmas...

Holidays on the water..

I spent a wonderful Thanksgiving night anchored at a small island off the west

amazingly clear, lots of stars. The best part was a pod of dolphins blowing
around the boat for a couple hours in the late evening.

I'll remember that night forever.

We have slip B9 at Brewers - it is a very small world. I am typing this

I dunno. It has been 36 years since I’ve had four seasons. Having grown up in
Chicago, I don’t miss it at all.

We have two seasons: wet and dry. Wet is 90-some degrees, extremely humid,
daily thunderstorms. Dry is spectacular – daily sunshine, temps from the mid
60s to low 80s, little rain. Springtime is the best.

Instead of cold and blizzards, our bad season is hot and hurricanes.

Stus-List Bragging Rights and Thanks

2013-12-24 Thread Stu
It’s time for me to brag a little bit and thank everyone for their continued
support.

In 2014, the CC Photo Album will celebrate it’s 18th anniversary, and I don’t
know how many times CC Yachts has changed hands, but we are still going
stronger every day.

This list has over 500 members and has been active for 8 years – probably more
than most email discussion groups.

In February, I will have been retired for 20 years and have enjoyed every
minute of it.

And tomorrow – Christmas Day – I will be celebrating my 70th birthday – and
still going strong. Although I traded in my CC Yacht for a 6 wheeled, 32 foot
land yacht, I still miss the water.

The people that have kept us going through thick and thin, are some of the
greatest people in the world. I hope that this year we will be able to meet
more of you in our travels.

Thanks everyone --

Seasons’ Greetings to all

2013-12-24 Thread Steve Thomas

Actually a lot of people in Toronto are kind of screwed right now.
It hasn't been unusually cold for this time of year, but they and most of
Southern Ontario east of here, got slammed with an ice
storm a couple of days ago.
Toronto alone still has 90,000 customers - meaning meters not people -
without power. Across the province there are about
300,000 people who will be spending Christmas eve without electricity and the
forecast low for Toronto is -14 Celsius.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ice-storm-will-mean-dark-christmas-for-thousands-of-canadians-1.2475190

or Google Toronto ice storm.

it looks like a bruckmann interior for surehinterholler niagara

were sold as landfall 39 42sa few were finished at bruckmanns have
you checked rudder grease fittings..as to leaks you may find hard to
distinguish as will be corroded out ..just a rough blobthese fittings
were brass but some appeared to have mixed metal interiors...easy to
replace..just need someone who can fit to get at thembest to do out of
water if possible ..replacing with new fitting with long grease hose
attached makes life lot easier to service ...once greased with grease gun
under pressure wont leak any apparent looseness in rudder stock..probably
cured... also for your interest C C at that time built many one offs..of
which a 39 40 had your configeration..2 off which were for SORC race

Best wishes and Happy Holidays from us as well. We have the single digit
temps now, but with plenty of snow after 8” on Sunday.

Thanks to Stu for bringing us together, and thanks to all of you for the
great advice and entertainment. One my few concerns about replacing a
Catalina 27 with our CC 30-2 was the amount of information available to me
with over 7,000 C27’s built. Because of this great list, it’s never been a
real concern.

The Ensenada marina had the audit when we were there. There were many
armed mitlitary posted at the marina while the audit was going on.The
audit lasted 2 days.
I heard that there was one boat on a trailer couldn't leave,

I don't know the whole story, we left before any news of the audit.

In February, I will have been retired for 20 years and have enjoyed every
 minute of it.

And tomorrow – Christmas Day – I will be celebrating my 70th birthday –
and still going strong. Although I traded in my CC Yacht for a 6 wheeled,
32 foot land yacht, I still miss the water.

The people that have kept us going through thick and thin, are some of the
greatest people in the world. I hope that this year we will be able to
meet more of you in our travels.

 Thanks everyone --

 Seasons’ Greetings to all

 Stu

   Fred:

My bragging rights are 70 degrees and sunny in St. Petersburg. We’re in
the grips of a cold snap. It was in the low 80s a couple of days ago.

 Merry Christmas.

This morning when I got up it was -17F / -27C — that’s air temp.
Windchill about 10F / 5C colder. Anyone else wanna go for bragging
 rights? :^)

You guys down further south (including Toronto) must be freezing this
year… at least we’re (more or less) used to it.

Merry Christmas from a rather cold St. Louis this year; 7F this AM, rather
