Have you thought about using a fuel tank for an outboard. they come in 3
and 6 gallon.

I had the same problem with mine, bowl full of jelly and the only quote I could 
get for polishing and cleaning the tank was well in excess of the new tank 
cost.  I ended up replacing the original 40gallon metal tank with a 10gallon 
plastic one as there was no way I would ever get through 40gallons in a 1GM10, 
little bit of cutting and some mounting bits and it was all done.  Not a 
difficult job assuming you can get the old tank out.

thanks Joel!  it was quite a search.  took over a year looked at dozens of boats, we negotiated on three, surveyed two drove many miles.
let's just hope it was all worth it!

Harry,

3 pairs of these have come up on eBay over the last 6 months.  Do you have
32STs already?  Just want newish ones?  Spares?  I keep an active search
for barient, barlow, lewmar, and self tailing.  I'll let you know if i seen
any more.

I have a local machinist that re-knurls, repairs, rebuilds, and repaints
them for a reasonable rate.  He can even fix broken teeth on the drum.  The
pair I got on ebay had a broken piece out of the self tailer.  He built the
metal up and milled it to contour the plate properly.
