We were supposed to be too far north to get much, but it turned out to be about
6 inches in our part of CT. Enough to snow blow until I managed to run over a
tarp edge and get it wound around the auger. Not a C&C question, but any one
know how to safely do this repair? I have heard that sliced arms/hands/fingers
from built up tension in augers is one of the most common emergency room
incidents this time of year and don’t want to join that crowd. Dave

Thanks for the concern. On Maryland's Eastern Shore, we got about 1 inches

problems in our marina - I just have a dusting, as I'm under a shed roof

Dave,

It is best if you can remove the driveline to the auger. That should
release any tension in the unit. It may be a chain drive or a shaft drive.
Either way, it will be much safer.

Re: Stus-List Looking for recommendation on 33 mkii Genoa size

2016-01-24 Thread Josh Muckley via CnC-List
Talk to a local sail maker who is familiar the sailing conditions. 120,
135, 145 are all reasonable. The larger the over lap the more work by the
grinder during tacks. The smaller the sail the less likely you will be
over powered when the wind pipes up.

Are you going to have a furler? Tuff luff? Hanks?

Are you planning on this being your primary sail, furled for stowage, and
only taking it down seasonally? Are you and your crew able bodied enough
to furle quickly should an emergent need to reduce sail area arise? Are
the prevailing winds during you trips and in your area between 5 and 15
kts? If all of these conditions and situations sound like you, then a 145
is probably a good choice for maximizing performance (speed). Otherwise
heavier weight should be placed on a smaller sail option.

Re: Stus-List The Big Storm

2016-01-24 Thread Marek Dziedzic via CnC-List
There should be a clutch for the auger. I am, kind of, assuming that you
have a two stage snowblower. So there should not be any tension in the drive
shaft.

The easiest way to make the auger move freely is to remove the shear pins
(there should be two; one for each side of the auger). They are shear pins,
so be careful when you unscrew them - they are easy to break (by design).
Once you remove the shear pins, the auger moves freely on the axle/shaft and
there cannot be any tension.

One more thing - use a wood block (can be a piece of wood for your
fireplace) and jam it between the housing and the auger. This should prevent
the auger from turning, even if there is some tension.

And generally, don't put your hands where you shouldn't.

Another big question is if you are trying to save the tarp. If no, cut it
off and then cut whatever is spun around the auger into smaller pieces and
remove.

Btw. Where is all the snow? Our ski hills are making snow around the clock
and we are just starting to see the results.

Good luck

Thanks all for your input. To answer some of your questions. The boat does have

came with a 120 and 135 in decent shape, so i will probably mess about with

same dimensions as the original panel (1984 C&C 35-3).  The originals are 8
position panels that measure 9" H x 5" W.  I can't find anything online that
are these dimensions.  Even 8 position panels from blue sea are much shorter,
although they look like a great match.

Re: Stus-List DC distribution panels

When I needed a panel for my C&C 41 I went to a local sign maker. They matched
the material and engraved the lettering I needed.
They were familiar with making that style panel, and had a CNC machine that did
it all. I don’t recall the cost but it didn’t seem to be excessive.

I think they are custom made by C&C. You can just replace individual
components/breakers.
