Stus-List Wanted - Traveler, Car & "T" track

2016-03-10 Thread Ted Drossos via CnC-List

Peter Fell was looking for a Harken windward sheeting traveler and car. I have
both of these items. A "small boat" windward sheeting adapter kit #213 and a
"small boat", high load captive bearing traveler car #2727. They are both new
and still in their original packing. I was just about to put them on eBay along
with a bunch of other hardware and sails for a C 29-2. I wish that the
cncphotoalbum classified section was still functioning. Is it appropriate to
list items for sale here?

2016-03-10 Thread Russ & Melody via CnC-List

Hi Sam,

The penetrating epoxy is kinda volatile so you might have difficulty
with a US firm shipping across the border.

The two Canadian Manufacturers I like to deal with are Systems 3 and
Industrial Formulators. They both started out in Lower Mainland area, B.C.

My last purchase was System Three (regular epoxy as barrier coat
under Inter 2000) 'cause they were cheaper :)

https://systemthree.com/collections/rot-repair

Did I mention I also have a wooden boat?

I use a Starbrite epoxy putty stick, once it's cured it blends pretty well.
I pound it into the hole, trim it flush with an Olfa knife, and give it a

Re: Stus-List New bearing arrived. How to make it tighter

2016-03-10 Thread Michael Brown via CnC-List
The bearing should be snug in the cutlass. While it is hard
to describe snug once it is in you should not be able to
rotate it easily by hand.

You can cut the bearing down with a hacksaw. It might be easier
if you put a wooden dowel, plastic pipe or something in it that
prevents damaging the rubber while cutting it.

Try measuring the ID and OD accurately.

The only really strange bearing issue I saw was that someone left a
bearing in but removed the rubber part. Then tried to put a new
cutlass bearing inside the other one. It almost worked but confused
the next owner.

Re: Stus-List Low Viscosity Epoxy

West Marine sells both Git Rot, and their own version which is essentially the
same thing but at a lower price point. The WM version also comes in 2 different
size kits, so you can buy an amount appropriate to the size of your project.

Our local Lowes store also sells a penetrating epoxy kit with resin and
hardener to make 16 oz of epoxy. Working time is supposed to be 60 minutes to
allow penetration of the wood. So you might try a home improvement store or
hardware store in your area if there is no marine chandlery/boat dealer in your
area.

If you cannot match, go for definite contrast, so it doesn't just look like a
poor attempt at a match. Maybe just install a screw with a countersunk style
washer in each hole.

The ceiling panels can be easily painted. You could fill them with epoxy or
almost whatever you wish and then paint the entire panel or all the panels so
that everything matches. I did this about a year ago and I also coated the top
side with epoxy to protect it from moisture.

Re: Stus-List filling old screw holes in the cabin ceiling liner

2016-03-10 Thread Dennis C. via CnC-List
I've used oval heads and finish washers like Bill suggests but the best fix
is gel paste. Unfortunately color then becomes an issue. I filled some
fastener holes in Touche's headliner with gel paste and, except for the
color, it came out very nice.

One day I will match the color of the headliner to a newer existing boat
and order some gel paste that closely matches.

If anyone wants to beat me to it, here's the process.

1. Get paint swatches from a paint store.
2. Match the headliner
3. Wander around marinas and boat storages to match a newer production
boat (2006 or newer)
4. Order appropriate gel paste from Spectrum color at:
