Re: Stus-List Man Crosses Atlantic on a Paddle Board ??
This is gonna look really weird in an archive search if someone is looking to cross the Atlantic on a piddleboard. sic :) A gentle reminder here to trim the thread and modify subject line please. I'm checking the emails sporadically these days so things like this are obvious to me but might not be clear on those dumb phones. Re: Stus-List Bilge Pump for C 29-2
Tom, which pump did you buy? I am in the same situation as you and Michael Brown – little room for a pump (30-1). Water collects down there and helps soften the mast step, which is not good. I managed to get a small Rule pump in the sump when the mast was out - which is working OK (with a check valve in the area immediately aft of the mast). But…. I think the pump has broken loose from its mount and is not emptying the sump completely. So, I want to supplement what I have with a self-priming one I can put under the dinette seat and keep the area dry. The Wale Gulper 320 looks good, but I was wondering if there are others. Re: Stus-List Bilge Pump for C 29-2
When I purchased Touche', it had an impeller style pump in the settee locker near the sump with a suction hose lead down into the sump. I removed it and installed a more traditional in-sump centrifugal pump. I often question why I did that. Sometimes think about going back to the impeller style pump as long as the intake has a good screen. Dennis C. I don't know about Bill's set up, but I converted my 25 II into wheel steering; Edson has a package especially for small boats and it fits under the cockpit sole; works very well; probably not the best for racing, but it opens up the cockpit nicely; I built a seat which spanned over the space where the tiller normally came through; Richard s/v Bushmark4; 1985 C 37 CB; Ohio River, Mmle 596 Richard N. Inquiring minds would love to see a photo or two of how it is configured. Does it use the single cable (push/pull) system with an internal cable bracket or the RLA (remote linear actuator) with a miniature quadrant inside a box that passes through the transom and connects with a linkage to a bracket on the side of the rudder? If the latter, the steering cables run inside conduit which should be lubricated with a Teflon based grease called SuperLube. There is a special conduit grease cup that can be installed to facilitate lubrication. What isn’t a good idea is to spray something like WD 40 down the cables, hoping to provide adequate lube, since the inside of the conduit is lined with Teflon which doesn’t particular care for petroleum lubricants. Lubrication of the chain inside the pedestal should also be achieved using Superlube for the wheel shaft bearings and a light application of 30w motor oil on the chain. Greasing the chain creates a sticky mess which attracts dirt and contaminates the wheel brake (if you have one). I toyed with the idea of wheel steering when I was both an Edson employee and a 25Mk 1 owner, but parts for both systems were becoming a bit scarce and I wasn’t sure I’d want to always steer from behind the wheel in the cockpit. I would race the boat periodically and using a tiller with an extension allowed me to get my weight out on the rail to help keep the boat a bit flatter when the breeze picked up. Best of luck with your 25. I owned mine for 14 years and it was a great boat!
