Hi Jake,

I think you're looking for a "street elbow". See links.

Don't go with the stainless steel option if you
have a choice. It will be sexy in the beginning
and might let you down much later.

where have we heard that before?

Guys,

I’ve installed an electric VDO oil pressure
gauge, but the sensor install is giving me a bit
of a problem.  I bought the tee fitting from
eBay, like Josh and several others.  It is
listed here:Â Â
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-8-BSPT-Oil-Pressure-Sensor-Tee-to-NPT-Adapter-Turbo-Lexus-Toyota-Subaru-Mazda-/351867602261Â
The only issue I have is that the Yanmar sensor
sticks out from the block too far and actually
touches the alternator belt.  I would like to
install a 90 degree elbow and point the sensor
down, which I think would solve my
problem.  The problem is finding a compatible
product.  It would have to be a male-to-female
90 degree (or 45 degree) elbow with 1/8” BSPT
threads on both ends.  I’ve found a number of
male-to-male fittings, but that won’t quite work.

I’ve searched a lot and haven’t found
anything that would work.  Has anyone else run
into this problem?  I don’t have room to
relocated the alternator enough to provide clearance.

Any ideas?

Mine came with the street elbow already installed. One alternative I
considered before buying the tee was to drill and tap the port to the next
size larger. 1/4" NPT instead of 1/8 BSPT. Then a bushing would get tou
back to 1/8" NPT.

Any way you slice it the parts just don't seem to be available.

If you’re in a marina along the east coast anytime soon, pick up a copy of the
2017 issue of Waterway Guide magazine (It’s a freeby published once a year and
distributed free to marinas that ask for it). There is a very engaging article
by our own Hank Evans that you might want to read.

And, in the interest of full disclosure, there’s a pretty complementary story
about Washington, NC, and the municipal marina that I manage in this issue as
well.

2017-04-04 Thread Dr. Mark Bodnar via CnC-List

Anyone know where to get sheets of acrylic in Halifax area? I've done
some searching and Piedmont Plastics is the only supplier that seems to
come up.
I'm waiting on them to get back to me with a price for a 4x8' sheet of
9mm acrylic - or even if they have any cut off etc -- but they didn't
seem like they had any in stock and were unsure about pricing or
availability.

I got the 3M VHB tape last summer and plan on replacing the replacement
this spring.

If you absolutely need Qest fitting I've found this website to be
thoroughly stocked.

On the other hand, if you're willing to try something else, I've used
flare-it fittings and been very pleased with the construction and
operation. They are compatible with various plastic pipes and don't seem
to have the same deficiencies as Qest fittings.

Stus-List Windows Pt 2.

2017-04-04 Thread Eric Baumes via CnC-List
I spoke to a local fabricator about making the windows.

We spoke for a while about the curvature of the windows and whether they
would have to be thermoformed.

I know the windows curve to match the curve of the cabin top, but are they
at all curved vertically?

Researching Lexan is seems you can cold bend it as long as the radius is
10x the thickness.

For anyone who has done this on a 34/36 or 37/40, were the replacement
windows flat stock?

Thanks,

Don't use a power washer. It will make a mess. I've done it, and I won't
do it again.

I have washed many a car engine using the carwash pressure hose with no
effects. Without covering the alternator. I do keep spray away from the air
intake. Fresh water will not cause corrosion like salt water will.

Hello all;

I want to clean up my diesel engine/compartment/etc. now that I have corrected
a belt problem which has, over the years, sent lots of black belt dust over
everything thanks partly to the alternator cooling fan--no need to go into that
disaster! Of course some of the dust attached itself to the engine and has now
been really 'baked' on.

Anyhow, I want to clean it up and plan to use a hand held power washer after I
scrape flaking old paint/rust/etc. off with a wire brush. I would like to do it
without removing any thing electrical, like the alternator, etc. so I thought
I'd ask the list for advice.

My thought is to find some sheets(?) of shrink wrap plastic and use a hair
dryer to soften them and 'waterproof' the alternator and other electrical items
during the power washing.

My questions for the list are 1) does this sound like it would work--I can't
imagine reaching all the nooks and crannies of my Beta 28 even with a
toothbrush! and 2) are sheets of shrink wrap plastic of say several square ft.
dimensions available.

I am thinking of the stuff that often 'wraps' new power boats that are
trailered to dealers, etc. that you see on the highways. Maybe it is just
waterproof sticky paper which might also work.

Thoughts on this plan are welcome--positive or negative. I am trying to avoid
adding to my problem list. When it cleans up, I plan to paint it with
automotive engine paint.

If you’re in a marina along the east coast anytime soon, pick up a copy of the
2017 issue of Waterway Guide magazine (It’s a freeby published once a year and
distributed free to marinas that ask for it). There is a very engaging article
by our own Hank Evans that you might want to read.

And, in the interest of full disclosure, there’s a pretty complementary story
about Washington, NC, and the municipal marina that I manage in this issue as
well.
