On Kaylarah (37+) I had to reinforce the rudder assembly and then cut the
rudder tube to insert the Edson Rudder Arm. See here
<https://drive.google.com/open?id=1PxnlMnxH0HueWkyJDLNkBvv_0oWDnxlQ>. It
works extremely well.

Definitely press or tap the pin out.  My rigger buddy and I have worked on a
couple of MKI's.  We used an appropriately sized punch and gently tapped out
the roll pins.  Here's Harken's directions on removing/replacing roll pins.

http://www.harken.com/uploadedfiles/Product_Support/PDF/4884.pdf

Unfortunately, I don't have the diameter of pin to give you.  Harken no longer
stocks them but they may be able to give you the correct size information.  You
can them order them from mcmaster.com or another vendor.

Be sure to use the correct size.  If you use a size that's too small, you risk
having a pin work it's way partially out of the extrusion.  If your swivel is
up, you won't be able to drop it.  :)  Seen that a couple times.  It isn't
pretty.

My 40 (not the aft cabin) has the drive installed upside down and bolted to
the cockpit floor. I would think there would be enough space for the tiller
arm as mine has one installed. The aft cabin model should not be that much
different back there...but perhaps they are.

Not 40’ owner but perhaps the under-cockpit space in our 37’ (1980’s version…)
is similar. I did
this.
 Not perfect but it works.

I am starting to plan a below deck Autopilot for my C 40. I have looked below
and it is clear that I will need to make some modifications to support a tiller

Re: Stus-List water tank replacement suggestions

2018-06-06 Thread Dreuge via CnC-List
I repaired a water tank by hot air plastic welding. Plastic welding is pretty
easy to learn, just get a pack of LDPE welding rods. I initially tried G/flex
with alcohol cleaning prep and flame treating the plastic, but it failed. I
had a really long crack (~1/3 tank length) along the corner edge. After
welding the crack, I welded on a stainless steel mesh over the region for
structural support. It may not have looked pretty but it has remained
leak-free going on 4 years.

I wrote about the repair on my blog:
