Stus-List Marinco shore power inlet

2018-08-06 Thread Bradley Lumgair via CnC-List
I broke the threaded boss in the shore power inlet the other day on Pulse,
ordered a new one from amazon, and an ez lock collar for the cord. Looks like
it's all going to fit, more or less, however when I took the inlet apart, 2 of
the rear enclosure mounting corners are broken off (plastic) and the gaskets
are done. Does anyone know of a source for parts for Marinco fittings? 30a 110v
stainless. Don't really want to buy a new one this year.
Thanks

Some submersible pumps need to be under water to cool them properly. You need
to get a fact sheet on the pump.

like the one 1 have. it sits under sink high and dry and looks like it drains

I just replaced a refrigeration pump that looked just like that Lc-3CP, but it
was a Dometic. I think they are all the same.

I think I replaced it needlessly, as a couple days after I did, the new one was
screaming and shutting the compressor down. Again. Then, I remembered that I
had to bleed the damn thing before, but I forgot.

I plan on fixing that bleeder problem by having the pump output go straight up
for a bit, to let air out. Now the hose goes down, which traps air in the pump.

Listers,

After some work, I was able to get the wiring reconnected to the refrigerator
on the Enterprise. The thermostat now lights up and I see different LEDs go on
and off, though nobody, including the manufacturer, knows what the lights mean
anymore.

So here are some questions, cause I’m not feeling the cold-plate get cold after
a while. . .

1. Does it need a warm-up time to get going?
2. Should it be making noise (mine is silent both inside the chest and at the
“guts” in the aft cabin)? I’m worried that the compressor motor is seized.
3. Is it worth getting a marine refrigeration guy out there to check it out or
am I really just better off ripping the whole thing out and starting fresh?

All the best,

Edd

No one seems to mention that on some C&C's the stanchions protrude
enough so that they will catch as you come in or out of a slip that has
pilings or boards on the finger pier. Unless someone is on the boat to
assist in keeping that from happening, one is likely to destroy a
stanchion. I have a couple of times over the many years I have owned my
C&C 36. It is a problem. Just thought I would mention that.

A variation on the spring line is to run a long line attached at the
toe rail next to the sidestay, outside the lifeline, with bitter
end/tail running back into the cockpit. Tail remains loose in the
cockpit for the approach. Stay at wheel and throw the line (holding
onto tail) beyond the dock cleat so as you pass a bight forms around
the cleat. You'll have a loop that runs from amidships, around dock
cleat, back into cockpit. Wrap tail around cockpit winch as you pass
the dock cleat. Can pull in or ease if needed to gently slow the boat.
With boat stopped leave boat in forward idle with wheel to port and it
stays snug against the dock. Acts just like a spring line but is
easier to get it around the dock cleat.

Reverse the process to leave the dock. With boat in forward idle and
spring attached, remove other dock lines, get into boat. Then with
boat in nuetral pop the bight off the dock cleat and recover the line.

Hi Edd,
You should hear the compressor shortly after you power up. It's not
hard to hear. If your unit is Frigiboat, I have a tag on my unit that
tells me what the LEDs mean. Let me know and I will get you the info if it
is Frigiboat. I would spend a little time diagnosing. It may just be low
on refrigerant. Also, if you short the thermostat out, the compressor
should start. If it does start, then there is something wrong with the
thermostat.

Stus-List Broken breaker UPDATE

2018-08-06 Thread Tom Buscaglia via CnC-List
I solved the breaker mystery. At least it appears so.

I recently installed a new Raymarine EV1/ACU100 auto pilot, but kept my
existing ST6000 pilot control and used my e7 MFD to set everything up. Running
the new Seatalkng backbone to the mfd was the toughest part. The EV series are
smart and self learning. One I relocated the EV1 away from my original
location to right next to the ACU (they really should mention in their docs
they you should not mount these two items next to each other, but that’s
another story...back to the breaker). The compass deviation was at 2 degrees.

Here comes the interesting/weird part...rough the set up on the mfd I left the
compass unlocked to continue learning and set the mfd to be able to control the
pilot. Once we started our trip north I noticed the the pilot was being
extremely active. Hunting and over and undear correcting. Then after I while
is would get alarms on the mfd the the motor stalled and finally the breaker
started to trip intermittently. So, since all of the DC wiring seemed solid I
decided to blame the breaker. I even tried taping it closed, but it tripped
anyway.

So, I tried something that I did not expect to work...I shut down the mfd. the
pilot calmed down and held course within 2-3 degrees, not the 6-8 it had
before I shut down the mfd.

My theory ins the mfd and st6000 were both sending instructions at the same
time causing over correction and, when there was simultaneous conflicting
instructions to the motor, circuit overloads. Since I use the mfd for sailing
and the pilot only when motoring, it should work out fine. I just turned off
pilot control and locked the compass in the mfd.

thx for the help guys...on to Sidney for new motor mounts!

2018-08-06 Thread Della Barba, Joe via CnC-List
Defective breakers are not really a common repair. Obviously they can
malfunction like everything else, but suddenly tripping at a new
lower-than-rated current would be VERY odd. The first thing I would be checking
is that the circuit was not in fact overloading the breaker.

**If the boat has suffered a lightning hit, you can get burned contacts and
erratic behavior in all kinds of things. I once had to turn my battery switch
on and off about 10 times to get it to work and then could not hear anything on
the VHF. I looked up and the masthead antenna was missing and the base was
burned to a crisp. Believe it or not the radio survived! That cable from the
mast to a keel bolt earned its keep.

I replaced all three breakers for interior lighting last year due to failure.
(One failed, but I replaced all three while I was at it.) Before the breaker
failed, lights that were on that circuit would dim, then brighten, then dim,
etc. This lasted a few weeks, then the lights stopped working. No issues
since I replaced the breaker, which was not expensive.
