Chuck,

I see from you area codes that you are here in Michigan.  Give Torresen
Marine a call to see if they might have a used Campbell Sailor or
Michigan Wheel prop laying around.  We used them to repower our Redwing

No, you would have to use heat, which would make the metal brittle. Its the base
of the strut that is bent, which makes bending it back into shape very
difficult and not very accurate.

Re: Stus-List Propane Solenoid

2019-05-28 Thread Nathan Post via CnC-List
Mine was 1/4 inch fittings if I remember correctly. Also when I had that
problem I found that my solenoid was fine - the pressure regulator was shot and
no longer let gas through so I suggest checking that first. Disconnect hose
before the solenoid and see if gas will flow through it.

Also check if you have voltage at the solenoid - it could be a wiring or
breaker fault. The solenoid should get warm to the touch when on.

Stus-List Anyone have a prop? I recently had my three blade Max-prop
refurbished. My engine was running rough, so I thought it might have been the
cutless bearing. While the boat was out of the water for bottom paint, the yard
noticed the prop blades were wobbly and the shaft was worn, in addition to the
worn cutless bearing. The prop was sent back for refurbishing ( It came back
looking like a brand new prop.), a new shaft was machined and a new cutless
bearing was installed. The crew and I noticed a significant difference in how
smooth the engine runs, and I get more boat speed than before the work was
done.Alan Bergen35 Mk III ThirstyRose City YCPortland, OROn Mon, May 27, 2019

Stus-List USCG documentation renewal scam - again

2019-05-28 Thread Dennis C. via CnC-List
Well, it's that time of year. I got my annual notice from "Maritime
Documentation Center", Billings, Montana.

For any owners new to this list, this notice always brings a chuckle to
many of us. Maritime Documentation Center is NOT the USCG Vessel
Documentation Center (VDC). It is a private third party entity who will
file your renewal for you for what many of us consider an exorbitant fee.

They are always consistent about sending their notice out quite a bit
BEFORE the USCG sends you the official renewal notice. Simply wait until
you receive the official notice from the USCG VDC and then go online and
renew for $26. You'll save a few $$$ that you can spend on a new boat toy.

and ask? You might ask whether they could expedite the refurbishing.

Stus-List Anyone have a prop?

2019-05-28 Thread Chuck Saur via CnC-List
Thanks for all the responses and generous offers of help! I had the yard
pull DAYDREAM out this morning, and fixed the issue! Here are some key
things I learned:
-There is no mention of "numbered parts" in the original manual for the
MaxProp Classic three blade feathering prop. You need to wipe away grease,
and assure that all the part placements are matched with the numbers
stamped on the blades. (1,2 and 3). The gears, housing and blades are all
stamped with a 1-3 number and need to align, because, according to PYI,
these props prior to around 2000 builds, were basically hand made, and
tuned. This means each part has small differences that might not be
noticeable. (to someone like me...)
-When re-assembling the blades, make sure they are exactly in the same
position as when they were disassembled. (unless, as in my experience they
may have been reassembled wrong in the past...)

So...thanks again, but my prop is back, and running more smoothly than
ever...and I'm safe in our slip in St Ignace, in the Straits of Mackinac.
If you have other questions, I'll try to convey my new knowledge... Whew!!!
 cs

Stus-List Yanmar 2gm starter problem

2019-05-28 Thread tom via CnC-List
Hello all,
So my aftermarket starter died last season and I recently pulled it out
looking to compare for fit to a replacement. The local marina looking for
$275 prompted more searching and many seem available for @ $100 or less w 1
year warranty. I believe Yanmar replacement is over $400, so there is the
quality/price issue if anyone can chime in.
However, I now see as a bigger problem. The starter shows a large piece of
the shield for the pinion gear and shaft missing. This part of the shield
section supports the shaft end and that is completely missing...so no
support of the pinion gear shaft. Although I hadn't looked closely at it
when I removed it, I would have noticed loose pieces. So if this has
broken off inside the bell housing, pieces may still be there. I am
thinking that I must remove the trans for access to clear any remnants. Any
other ideas? Also, any thoughts about why this happened?
Thanks much,
Tom Oryniak
