Stus-List Chirping rudder post, 37+ 40

2019-08-11 Thread Tom Buscaglia via CnC-List
Hey gang. Coming back to the states from the C&C Rendezvous today I notice a
chirping sound that seems to be coming from the rudder post. I opened the
cover to where the emergency rudder attaches and I could feel the chirps. The
was also a minuscule movement as well (less than 1/32nd of an inch). But the
steering had no additional play in it and I could not trigger the sound from
the helm. When she as hauled out last year I confirmed that the rudder post
had no play in it at all.

I plan on inspecting the quadrant and top where it attaches.

Anyone have a clue? Like are there actually zerc fittings on the post that I
missed?

Can confirm that this repair stops the creaking - very spirited sailing last
few days!

Sorry Andy - late reply

This creaks in some 33-2 models because the aft bulkhead is not tabbed to the
deck but sits in a groove in the headliner. Grab the handhold on the hanging
locker and push and pull and you’ll replicate the creak.
I fixed this last winter by cutting out the liner inside the hanging locker and
tabbing the bulkhead to the deck. will post pics and details to my 33-2 blog
this weekend.

Hi there,

Does anybody have any suggestions / comments on a rather significant creaking
near starboard bulkhead on C&C33 Mark II? The boat is overall in very good
shape but I did notice creaking when walking on the deck slightly forward of
the bulkhead whilst at dock. We were out in heavy seas (25 knots) on our last
trip reaching through waves and the creaking was quite noticeable down below.
There are no soft spots and from visual and audible inspections I don’t see any
signs of delamination. Also no signs of water ingress.

I’m thinking that the joint between the bulkhead and deck may have come loose
and was wondering if anybody has experienced the same, and would be curious to
hear any suggestions on how to remedy the issue.

Thanks!

Andy

Stus-List Hitachi 55A alternator question - 12.63 v output

2019-08-11 Thread Francois Rivard via CnC-List
Hi Russ,

I had alternator issues (Diodes) I looked into having refurbed and found
it wasn't worth fooling with. I found a shiny, brand new, genuine Hitachi
(Yanmar's OEM) alternator for about $75.00- 80.00 shipped on eBay. I just
put it in myself, it was a plug and play 30-45 minutes install. At least
on my boat, it was one of the easiest / most accessible things to
replace. The new one worked much better than my old tired one when it was
working "correctly". That was 5 years ago. Never had a problem since.

When you think about it, especially if it's the 30 some year old original,
the brushes are worn, the bearings are worn, the windings have seen better
days.. The whole thing is worn-out. You'd have to replace pretty much
everything on the alternator. After some research, I found that buying a
shiny new one was cheaper than having my old one re-furbished locally.

Here's an actual Yanmar brand Item for $160.00 (Pretty good price for OEM)

Here's a cheaper after market option:

Best of luck with the project.

Stus-List Rust proof a gauge

2019-08-11 Thread Len Mitchell via CnC-List
Joe, You can remove rust from chrome with steel wool as long as it’s just on
the surface. If it’s in deep you are out of luck. If you can get the rust off
wax helps keep it off. Not as big an issue in sweet water! Len
