Being the cheap SOB that I am, I had Bacon Sails make me new sails. They
use the Quantum loft without the markup for the green label. You do have
to measure yourself.
The Office has a hydranet radial main. Matt might comment on how it is
holding up. Atlantis has cross-cut dacron sails that are great after
several thousand miles.

Yes I concur Doyle sails are very good. A few years after I got Alianna, I
got a 135 RF head sail, tuff luff, cross cut 8 oz dacron, draft stripes,
ticklers, and sail numbers. The main was also 8 oz, cross cut dacron, 4
battens in pockets secured with velcro internal straps, draft stripes,
loose foot, first and second reef points, tell tales, C logo and sail
number. I have used these sails almost exclusively since I got them and
they still got lots left after 10 or so years. I had to replace the uv
strip on the foot and leach of the RF 135 after 8 years but I think that’s
quite usual. I have no hesitation in recommending Doyle sails but there is
an advantage to going with a local loft. The Doyle loft here in
Halifax/Dartmouth NS gave excellent service.

I just ordered a headsail from a local loft but with offshore manufacture
by the Quantum facility in Sri Lanka. About 70% cost of the national
affiliated lofts. Measured and backed by a local loft but with the savings
of offshore manufacture.

My last racing sail was made by North in their Sri Lanka facility. I don't
have a big problem with offshore manufacture as long as the measurement and
support is local.

Your list looks like mine when we considered new sails.  The Detroit
Sobstad loft is good, I looked at them.  We went with UK out of Chicago
because they were more local.  They came out and measured and brought
the sails out to the boat in the spring.  We didn't bend them at that
time since we were still on the hard but they fit like they were
designed for the boat.  Our sails were completed at the Chicago loft
during the height of the lockdowns.  We weren't sure we would get them
but they delivered. They did skip putting on the sail numbers and the
logo on the main but they are taking the sails back this winter to put
them on.

My experience with the Chicago North loft was not as good.  They came
out and measured our Redwing 35 for a new main and the sail was about 4"
too long on the luff.  We sent it back and they altered, sent it back to
us and it was still too long, sent it back and the third time was the
charm.  Good sail but it was a pain to get proper fit.

I endorse working with a local loft.  They are available if you need them.

I got the North 3DI raw for my old 38 and they are fantastic. 3 racing seasons
on the main and #1 and they are like new.

If you’re considering North, you may also want to consider Doyle. High quality
sails, typically 15-20% less than North, and there is a local loft for
servicing in Cleveland (and another in Detroit).

Good Morning,

I was hoping to get the group's thoughts on new sails for For Play. I have
received quotes from Precision, UK, North Sails and Sobstad.

Precision is the cheapest followed by Sobstad, I'm leaning towards Sobstad
because they make the sails here not in a foreign country and they are local to
me.

When getting quotes I tried to keep the pricing apples to apples as best I
could, Dacron cruiser club racing sail, single reef, draft stripe, Cunningham,
full top batten, numbers, loose foot.

Any input would be appreciated.
