Stus-List Available Moorings in New England
>From my previous post a few minutes ago describing an expedition from Lake Ontario to Maine, one may be misled into thinking all is rosy. I do have a significant problem and have exhausted my local knowledge. There are no moorings available within an hour of Saco, Maine! I am on 25 waiting lists. Does anybody know of any available slips or moorings in NH, Boston, RI, CT? Even Lake Champlain is an option (4 hour drive to Burlington, VT is better than 8 hours to Rochester, NY). Tom, Similarly I moved from Rochester, NY to Saco, ME last summer and had the move/sell debate. We love our 1980 C! Although much of the electronics are original, removed the LORAN in 2021 when I bought it, she is a boat we know. So we decided to move her. As soon as the kids get out of school we are motoring down the Barge Canal, restepping in Albany, anchoring at the Statue of Liberty, and sailing Long Island Sound up the coast. We (maybe only me in my family) seriously considered going down the St Lawrence around Gaspe and Cape Breton but decided it was too long, too risky, too rough of a journey. I think it’s an opportunity for you to go on an adventure! Thomas - If you’re happy with the 29 and have invested a lot, keep it and truck it. If you intend to sell it, sell it there. If your 35-3 doesn’t work out, I will be putting windstar up for sale in a month or so. 33-2 in very (extremely) good condition, many upgrades, needs nothing. Freshwater only boat east of Toronto on Lake Ontario. Sail it home. I'll third that. Between eastern lake Erie and and western lake Ontario there are more well kept C's that any other area in the world. I got my Alera from Niagara on the Lake on Lake Ontario, where she was made. She was on the hard at the Niagara on the Lake Sailing Club and we shipped her to the Pacific Northwest. I was b;pen away by the yard at the NoL Sailing Club...over 60% of the sailboats there were classic (pre 93) C Not too sure about Lake Erie,, but I suspect there is a healthy population of C there as well. Thomas, if you have 10 days or so, the trip up the Hudson and the Erie Canal is worth doing and not very difficult. And certainly not very expensive. Just a thought. I bet if you can’t do it yourself you might find. Volunteer on this list to take the boat for you. You can always list it and see what happens. If it didn't sell in a predetermined period of time, have it shipped. If you know a broker, they could run comps on sold boats for you. That way you'll have a better idea of your boat's worth. I think the updates and upgrades certainty make your boat more appealing but, probably doesn't add too much to the price. Good luck!
