Re: Stus-List Disassemble a Barient 22 Winch
You can watch a young man service his Barient 28 winches on YouTube. Search "Barient winch service." He spends a minute or two explaining how to get the lock undone without the original tool. Re: Stus-List Spot tracker
> > There has been much discussion on the motorcycle group forums about the > latest SPOT 3. Long distance motorcyclists use the SPOT system almost exclusively. SPOT 1 and SPOT 2 worked well out of the box. SPOT 3 has given people fits. Occasionally tracking, occasionally not. Bottom line there is a firmware update that most people need to do ASAP, and every time you change your findmespot account details. They recommend that after turning it on, you send a message to get it to seek satellites. It does not automatically link up to a satellite when you turn it on and hit the "tracking" button. On longer trips, you need to do that each day apparently. I am a happy SPOT 2 user. No issues. It is linked to SPOTWALLA.COM so my trips are recorded forever, not just the 2 weeks findmespot allows. Stus-List Diesel water alarm question
Yanmar 2GM-15 After warming up the engine, motoring out of the marina and into the bay (about 5-10 minutes of moving) the WATER light and alarm came on. I checked out the exhaust, there was water coming out as it should. I eventually shut off the motor and sailed for a bit. After sailing same routine: engine on, 5-10 minutes into the ride back to port the WATER alarm and light came on. The impeller was new in July, and had maybe ten hours on it. The cooling water comes from under the boat then passes through a filter before heading to the motor. It appears to need to be cleaned. (Bottle looks grungy). I could not locate a place to check the engine coolant. I wanted to make sure that that was topped up. While I was away, the marina personnel ran the motor at idle for a minutes, did not see an alarm, and assumed all was well. They did not check the filter or the coolant as far as I know. I am assuming the water pump/impeller is good as it is new. Any other things I should be considering? Re: Stus-List Spreader lights
This summer I had the boat completely re-wired. That included installing a combination Steaming light/deck light. There are separate switches on the DC board for each light even though the deck light is the bottom portion of the steaming light housing. Located half way up the mast it throws a perfect bright light over the deck, illuminating everything from the mast to the bow. I was amazed how well it worked when I tried it the other day. I too had wires hanging out of the spreaders. Not needed anymore. Put those propane burners to work. When/if boat sells, I will send it off with the new owner. Actually, the boat is coming along nicely. Has been completely re-wired with a new AC and DC panels installed, Nexus wind instruments installed (wireless to the wind vane at the top of the mast), leaky V-berth hatch was re-done by Atkins and Hoyle (no more drip on the forehead as I try to sleep), Raymarine Evo-100 auto pilot installed, all upholstery recovered, new mattress in V-berth, new VHF, electronic weather station, solar powered vents, cowl vents, Lewmar self-tailing primary winches, etc Still lots to do. The winter project will be installing a windlass, getting some chain and a new Rocna anchor. Stus-List Original oven and propane stove removed
I have removed the gimballed propane stove and original oven (the stove fits into the top of the oven) from my 1980 C&C 30 mk 1 to make more storage room on the boat. The oven has never been used, and the original alcohol stove was replaced with a much newer two burner propane stove within the last ten years. It may have been used once or perhaps never as well. It looks new. Color is brown. I'm not sure if there is any interest in these items, but before I scrap them I thought I would check with the Forum members. Re: Stus-List Did I upgrade or downgrade my ground tackle?
I'm doing the same, CC30 Mk1. I like the Rocna design and if it performs half as well as it appears to, we'll have a winner. Adding a Lewmar windlass, and new rode as well. Pulling the big Bruce up always turned into a bloody affair. Working gloves became mandatory. Re: Stus-List diesel differences
Correction: Actually, as I look at the brochures that came with the engines, the dry weight of the 2QM15 was 145 kg (320 lbs). The dry weight of the 2GM15 is 100 kg (220 lbs). The 200 kg weight of the QM was the shipping weight, not the "in boat" weight. Still a difference the first owner thought was substantial enough to make a change. He circled the weights on each brochure, so I have an idea why he made the change. Stus-List diesel differences
My boat originally (1980) came with a 2QM15 that weighed close to 200 kg (440 lbs). In 1984 they changed the engine to a 2GM15 that weighed 100 kg (220 lbs). Not only lighter, it was smaller and more compact. I suspect the larger models exhibit weight and dimension differences also. Interesting what Google will bring up about the boat. Snowbird was bought new and put in the water in April of 2008. Stus-List Re-Bedding / Filling & Drilling w_Epoxy
Joel, +1 on the West Six/10 thickened epoxy, and the PBase info. I changed 4 cowl vents last weekend. One of them had been leaking for years apparently, so the core was wet. Very wet. I was able to scoop out the softened wood with a finger and screwdriver, dried it with everything from paper towels, newspaper, sun, air, and time. Then used the syringe to inject the epoxy into the gap between deck and liner. The result was better than I could have imagined. After letting it set, and re-drilling the screw holes that were now filled with epoxy, I installed the flashy new plastic Nicro cowls using silicone sealant. (Had it been Stainless hardware I would have used butyl tape as per PBase). I did take a few photos of the process. If anyone is interested, I will be happy to e-mail. Stus-List Replacing the toilet and holding tank in a 1980 C&C 30 Mk 1
Before I break a sweat, thought I should check in with the group. I know the holding tank is behind the teak wall or vanity but I was curious as to how much had to be removed before gaining access to the tank. If it all needs to be removed, is there anyone out there who can supply photos, nuggets of wisdom, step by step instructions, tips or tricks to getting things apart with minimal destruction? I know several have done this job on their boats, and replaced the metal holding tank with a plastic one. (I lost the names of tank suppliers). I am looking at installing one of the new Jabsco toilets. After resetting the hard drive on my computer I lost the link to the archives and my links to suppliers, so I have not checked there yet. >From Peter, in Penetanguishene...running out of Febreze.
