Re: Stus-List Air filter for Kubota based diesels

2017-03-04 Thread Rick Brass via CnC-List
Dennis;

You may recall that I became a Yanmar & Cummins certified diesel technician
while I was doing technical training in the industrial equipment industry. As a
result I abhor dust. A factory or an dusty work yard are a lot more severe than
the environment in our engine compartment, but even a small amount of dust can
play hell with the valves and the rings of a diesel engine. The forklift
manufacturer I worked for spent several hundred thousand dollars replacing
“dusted” Cummins engines that resulted from a small crack in the air intake
hose that resulted from improper assembly.

Consequently I wanted to eliminate the oiled metal filter on the Universal M35B
in Imzadi. Just happens that the Beta diesels are based on the same Kubota
engines as the Universals – at least for the recent models. The 4 cylinder 35HP
Beta is the same basic Kubota engine as my M35B. Ditto for the three cylinder
engines. I bought a Beta Marine air cleaner housing (which was a bit pricey)
which uses a replaceable automotive paper air cleaner element.

Not as cheap as the K alternative, but you might want to look into that.

Dennis, one of the biggest reasons for getting rid of the k is living aboard
I have no place to wash them. Plus the one on my truck went through a carb

I'd do some more research first.  I found several articles supporting K

A new metal air screen assembly is >$70.

A bit more probing on the Web turned up a nice comforting solution for 1/2 the
price.  A non-metal air filter made by K  The RU-2450 has a 1.75 inch ID
which fits the smaller Kubota diesels.  I measured the intake for my Universal
25XPB at 1.75 inches.  It apparently will fit the M25 and M30 diesels also but
measure your intake to be sure.

I've used K permanent air filters on my car and trucks for years.  Why not

The very favorable reviews on the Amazon listing specifically mention Kubota

Just an FYI for those of you that have Kubota based diesels.  :)
