Good idea.

Buddy of mine bought a Beneteau 47 with a deep keel and had a shoal keel
put on.  A few weeks later he found a guy with a shoal keel that wanted a
deep keel.  Bad timing.

My advice is don't.  You're undertaking a considerable project to cruise a boat 
that was not built to be a cruiser.  IMO you'll be happier finding a 
racer/cruiser boat that fits you needs and sailing grounds.  Retain the value 
of the 37R for someone looking to race.  I find my 37+ (tall rig, wing keel) to 
be tender and frequently wonder if a deeper keel would beneficial.

If you insist on proceeding then I would make sure that to modify to the 
largest torpedo bulb possible and draft to 6 or 6.5 feet.
