Re: Stus-List Boot Stripes -- Anyone need Brightside Red and Dk Blue?
I painted my cove stripe. Taped it off with the green 3M stuff and painted with the same Brightside? That I did the boot top with. I think it might be easier than trying to fit tape into that concave slot.Well! I've been trying to use "Concave " in a sentence for months - glad that's sorted! sam :-) 403-617-6280From: Chuck SSent: Wednesday, May 1, 2013 5:41 PMTo: CNC boat owners, cnc-listReply To: cnc-list@cnc-list.comSubject: Re: Stus-List Boot Stripes -- Anyone need Brightside Red and Dk Blue?Tape. Hi Dwight, I use two people for this task. That way I can get far out for a good view of the fair line, while holding the tape roll, and say, "Tack it there." to the friend. My walking path is an arc from stern to bow to keep the tape landing where I want it. In no time you can offer them a beer, after getting both sides' waterline or boot stripe fair and true. I would be inclined to use the 3M Fine Line tape. It's plastic and will stretch around the curves in the stripes. But bring money; that stuff is expensive! Re: Stus-List Boot Stripes -- Anyone need Brightside Red and Dk Blue?
Jake, Having the old stripes is key. Without them it would practically be impossible (laser levels?) I wasn't lying about four hours of taping. It takes forever. Use the best of the 3M blue tape and just move along the line. It has enough of a stretch so you can do the length of the entire side without having to break it up. The tricky part is the curve on the stern. Will take time and several pieces, but patience will yield great results. Make sure you shake up the paint a lot to thoroughly mix the polyurethane. Apply with a roller for extra smooth surfaces and follow with a foam brick to get rid of any air bubbles or imperfections. I was worried about the poly solidifying on the tape, so as soon as I was done, I pulled the tape off. As it dries, it glosses up and you find yourself staring at the hull in amazement. Edd, The new stripes look great. How did you get the tape on so straight? I'm about ready to redo my red boot stripes, but I fear that I can't tape them straight enough, even though I have the old lines to follow. Your originals look just like mine do currently. Nice job! I would take you up on the paint offer but I won't be able to get to painting new boot stripes until next year and that wouldn't be fair to the next guy that might get some use out of that paint now.
