Re: Stus-List Raw Water Blocked

2020-01-06 Thread Russ & Melody via CnC-List

A friend borrowed my Fender Jazz Bass in 1986,
travelled to Alberta and 'lost" it in Edmonton.

If anyone finds one in their raw water strainer
may I check it for identification? I miss that bass sometimes.

What engine do you have?  Fresh or raw water

riser getting plugged by carbon etc where water
enters.  Will also impact engine
performance.  Disconnect hose where enters
exhaust riser.  If water streams, then you have
your answer.  Also check the fitting where hose
attaches to riser – is clear??  If not, best
place is check if any blockage at intake or
strainer – maybe ssomething got into and plugged
the hose??  A friend’s hose inlet has less
than ideal configuration and frequently sucks up
eel grass and such and plugs the inlet
hose.  Another culprit might be the pump
impeller lost a vane and is stuck in the system before the strainer.

Stus-List Raw Water Blocked

2019-12-30 Thread Robert Abbott via CnC-List
At a Spring launch, I started the engineno water coming from the
exhaust thru hullpulled the boat to check the intake under the
hullclear and there is a strainer over it as well.

Started to check the hoses when I noticed antifreeze still in the glass
bowl holding the raw water strainer.I empty the bowl of salt water
in the Fall and put some antifreeze in it just in case over the winter.

Turns out when I put the cap back on in the Fall I didn't tighten the
two (2) wing nuts sufficiently to prevent air leakageintake was
sucking in air and not raw water.

Tightened the two (2) wing nuts, relaunched and all was fine.

Stus-List Raw Water Blocked

2019-12-29 Thread Tom Buscaglia via CnC-List
I took the elbow out. But before I did I ran the engine with the hose to the
elbow off. Water came out but at idle but it did not seem like it was
sufficient. More a dribble than a stream. Also, there was some sand like
residue in the water leading me to think that the exchanger may need some
attention. With the elbow off it should not be too difficult to at least
clean it out.

I had this earlier in the year, no water coming out, temperature alarm went
off. Checked impeller, pump etc and all looked good. Figured it had to be
outside the strainer, I disconnected (keeping the end of the pipe above
waterline!) and used the bellow pump from my inflatable dinghy to blow down the
pipe, whatever it was it cleared it out.

What engine do you have? Fresh or raw water cooled? Common issue for Yanmar
is exhaust riser getting plugged by carbon etc where water enters. Will also
impact engine performance. Disconnect hose where enters exhaust riser. If
water streams, then you have your answer. Also check the fitting where hose
attaches to riser – is clear?? If not, best place is check if any blockage at
intake or strainer – maybe something got into and plugged the hose?? A
friend’s hose inlet has less than ideal configuration and frequently sucks up
eel grass and such and plugs the inlet hose. Another culprit might be the pump
impeller lost a vane and is stuck in the system before the strainer.

Just some thoughts and good luck

Alera has a blockage somewhere in the raw water system. Nothing out the
exhaust.

I checked the intake and the pump. Both seem fine. But, there seems to be no
flow at the strainer.

I am wondering if there is some maintenance needed for the vented loop? It is
the next link in the chain and I’m running out of links.
