The teak will slowly wear away and become very porous.I replaced the rails on our viking 33 and the 7/8 rails were more like 5/8.  You could really see the wear at the connection points as they seems to flare a bit right at the deck. DannyOn Oct 2, 2021 2:20 AM, Donald Kern via CnC-List  wrote:

You will get grooves in the teaks grain, and the teak will eventually loose its 
structural integrity.  I just had to make new hand rails due to the lack of a 
protective coating on them. The teak toerail required extensive sanding to come
