You will get grooves in the teaks grain, and the teak will eventually loose its 
structural integrity.  I just had to make new hand rails due to the lack of a 
protective coating on them. The teak toerail required extensive sanding to come

Exterior Teak hand rails and trim 
    
    
    There was discussion on teak and what was the best application to
    apply.  However, on my '74 C&C35 Mk2 the exterior trim and
    handrails have been bare for the last 10 years (the varnish flacked
    off).  I kind of like the look of the lightly greyed teak, what are
    the disadvantages of not putting a finish on the teak?
