Re: Stus-List SailTimer Wind Instrument
Thanks Bettina. When I was evaluating the SailTimer app last summer, I found the company to be very responsive to my questions about the software. I just wish they were more communicative about estimated shipping dates of hardware orders. I do read their newsletter; that is the only source of updates. They don't have a phone number, and they are not responsive to email inquiries about shipping dates (in fact they actually discourage such inquiries). I'm still sold on the technical advantages of the product, but by the time I finally get it, the sailing season will be almost over for the year. We initially had the older version, which had trouble charging, sailtimer replaced it with the newer model at no charge. So overall we are satisfied with the company's service. Currently the issue seems to be connectivity (ok on ipad, but wont connect on iphone or android phone for some reason now, which it initially did- one at a time of course) also we played with the use of other sailing software such as i Regatta with limited success. I am still assuming operator error, so if anybody can provide insights; the troubleshooting assistance available on the net is limited. Re: Stus-List SailTimer Wind Instrument
Hi, Don’t forget that these units are not ordered with next-day shipping; they are pre-ordered, with a substantial discount for paying in advance (as noted on the online shopping cart page where you order). Pre-ordering with is common for new technology products these days, whether Tesla cars or new products at Kickstarter.com. It gives you a good deal, and lets the company order parts and manufacture products based on the actual numbr of orders. That keeps costs low and gets you new technology as fast as possible. There is a regular SailTimer email newsletter where updates on shipping and new features are posted. Last week’s issue (http://eepurl.com/b-2Ydb) explained that there was a mid-year upgrade to the molding process used with the tail section. That slowed the production temporarily, but is an important improvement that will keep the Wind Instrument on the leading edge for years to come. As noted in that newsletter, the manufacturing is now back to normal, with double the molding capacity, to catch up on the worldwide pre-orders as quickly as possible. This is not a clamshell case with a gasket that gets condensation inside and that will inevitably leak. The SailTimer Wind Instrument uses an advanced system for encapsulating all the electronics in the tail in a thin layer of solid plastic. This keeps your cost low, and does its job well. There is actually a digital compass built right into the wind direction arrow. Our team at SailTimer is working hard to create the best anemometer at the lowest price on the market. We are sailors ourselves. Please feel free to contact us with any questions at i...@sailtimerinc.com or check out information about this wireless, solar-powered Wind Instrument at www.SailTimerWind.com Whereas new product development often takes 4 or 5 years to bring to market, we are moving much faster than that. But this is not like a phone where the battery wears out after 2 years and the whole product needs to be replaced. The SailTimer Wind Instrument is designed to operate outside for 10-20 years, in all weather conditions you may encounter. ___ This list is supported by the generous donations of our members. If I recall correctly, the Federal Trade Commission prohibits charging a card before goods ship.
