I spoke with an inmarsat dealer. The "data plan" is not really a thing.
I ended up buying a used iridium 9555 sat phone on eBay ($500) which is USB
capable. There's about 40 odd steps to connect it to your PC for the first
time, but the phone will double as modem connecting you to the internet via
satellite albeit at very slow speed. It should, however be adequate to
download a GRIB file and get my weather off shore, plus I get the security
of having a sat phone on board.
