Re: Stus-List TRANSOM LADDER FOR SAILBOAT 5 STEP STAINLESS STEEL

2012-08-14 Thread djhaug...@juno.com
Okay I thought I would give an update on this... I like the ladder. I kind of
wish it folded in the middle and I may have it altered to do that. The wife
thinks it looks a little narrow when compared to some of the custom made ones
on other sailboats in the marina. That doesn't bother me though. It feels
like it is made of pretty heavy tubing and seems strong. The second ladder
shipped with MUCH better packaging. It was in a real box with plenty of
packing material. I thought the brackets were a little rough and I had to
remove burrs where the holes for the bolts were drilled. I ended up scratching
the boat name because of this while i was dry fitting it. That pissed me off!
Had i simply installed it without removing the burrs it would probably have
caused it to leak... Now that it is installed, I like it. I get 2 rungs
below the water and when folded, the 2nd from the bottom rung lines up with the
stern rail and the rest sticks up above the rail. Which, is why I'm thinking
of having a fabricator add a hinge. I'll wait on that though and see how I
feel after using for a while. I meant to take some photos before I left the
marina but, I forgot... Danny

Hi Rich,

 Thanks for having a look.
So now I see, the 5 step will allow the bottom step to be well below the
surface. Good thing.

I had to get my head around the Binnacle site images... the detail ones are

Danny: 1. It's very unusual that it's damaged. 2. The Binnacle does a huge

Hi Rich,

 Thanks for having a look.
So now I see, the 5 step will allow the bottom step to be well below the
surface. Good thing.

I had to get my head around the Binnacle site images... the detail ones are
upside down!

call them. 800 224-3937 / 902 423-6464

ask if they can trans-ship a replacement. In effect you repackage yours
and send it back and they ship a new one right away. Is pretty
styandard practice at a lot of outlets

Ask for Chris, Robert or Lisa. I think Eric is in charge of the on-line

Can the stand-offs be moved? It seems to me that they should be lower than
pictured, otherwise the ladder is going to bend. I don't know about the

For what its worth, my 35/3 has a 4 step. The bottom 2 are below the
transom, but it is a big step up from the the top step onto the boat.

Re: Stus-List TRANSOM LADDER FOR SAILBOAT 5 STEP STAINLESS STEEL

2012-07-27 Thread Rich Knowles
I'm looking at the ladders as I write. They are made of very sturdy 316
stainless steel and the stand off legs are completely adjustable between the
rungs. I think you would have to work very hard to bend them at all On the 5
step model the legs can be set anywhere fin 8" to 17" below the pivot. On the 4
step unit, they can be anywhere from 5-14 " below the pivot point. Both have
the mounting pads 11" apart. The 5 step unit's bottom step is 48" below the
pivot point and the 4 step is 35".

I'll stand by a bit. Lemme know if you needier info.
