[cobirds] White-winged Scoter photos
The White-winged Scoter was swimming around the ice-line in the State Wildlife Area on the NW side of Pueblo Reservoir from noon to 1pm today, and then a boat scared it off, though I was able to get some flight photos. They can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/brandonsbirdphotos/ You can also, see photos of the White-throated Sparrow and Northern Cardinal from Pueblo on Thursday, and if you keep looking on this page and the next page, you can see photos I took of the first state record for Texas of Nutting's Flycatcher, at Big Bend National Park on 31 December 2011. [cobirds] SNOWY OWL near 138th and Harvest, Adams County
Ira Sanders called to report that he saw the younger, darker of the two SNOWY OWLS this morning, when it flew from the west to the east side of Harvest just north of 138th Avenue, in the area east and south of Barr Lake. (see a map). It has been quite loyal to the fields near here for seems like weeks. If you have not yet been out to see it, why not today? No doubt it will heed the call of the north before long. [cobirds] White-winged Scoter still at Pueblo Res. 1/21
Since there might be some people still interested in seeing the female or immature WHITE-WINGED SCOTER at Pueblo Reservoir, I have an update from Margie Joy, she is looking at it around 1030am from the boat ramp at the State Wildlife Area on the north west side of Pueblo Reservoir this morning. So, the bird is still around. Brandon Percival Pueblo West, CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group. [cobirds] Golden-crowned Sparrow - Red Rocks - Jeffco
Good Morning All, The Golden-crowned Sparrow first appeared a little after 8 this morning below the platform feeder. He spent the next 10-15 minutes alternating between feeding under the platform feeder and retreating in to the shrubs. Other highlights of the morning at the feeders included: 2 pair of striking Cassin's Finches landing in the top of the lower apple tree around 7:45 A.M. one White-winged junco feeding next to the Golden-crowned Sparrow good looks at the PS x WW Junco observing the very handsome dark chocolate Song Sparrow - the heavy streaking and buffy malar markings are much more pronounced than the other Song Sparrows present at the feeders listening to the call of a Townsend's Solitaire while observing the Golden-crowned Sparrow Prairie Falcon sitting on top of large rock - visible to the SE Rob Raker reported seeing the pair of Prairie Falcons flying back and forth between Cave Rock and Frog Rock on his way out of the park - a little bonding and pre-courtship activity perhaps. [cobirds] Blk Phoebe yes, N Cardinal no, Pueblo
Following the note from Brandon Percival, we took the trail west from the Pueblo Nature Center yesterday afternoon. We easily found a Black Phoebe working hard from low branches right over the river. It was fun to watch. However, we did not see or hear a Northern Cardinal. Other birds observed included Song, White-throated, and White-crowned sparrows, many Robins, and a winnowing snipe.
