[cobirds] Steward Pond, Weld County: Where the heck is it?
In response to several questions regarding the location of Steward (aka Stewart) Pond, I'll offer the following: It is located east of Weld County Road 37 and north of WCR 46. Weld County Road 46 makes an unusual jog north just west of the pond. Latitude: 40.325 Longitude: -104.709 It is recommended that you park near the oil wells and observe from there as the actual pond is posted. If you are familiar with ebird hotspots you may locate it on their site. We access it from Route 85 by turning east on WCR 46. Or if visitiing Lower Latham marshes, go south on WCR 43 amd then west to the pond on WCR 46 about a half mile west of WCR 39. [cobirds] CFO Field Trip--Saturday, November 30, 2013
CFO Field Trip to North Metro Reservoirs-Saturday, November 30, 2013 Join CFO Directors Larry Modesitt, Peter Burke and Bill Kaempfer for this exploration of reservoirs, lakes and wetlands in the North Metro area. The trip will start at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 30th from the Frederick Recreation Area parking lot on Colorado Blvd. (Take the CO 52 exit off I-25, go two miles east to CO 52 then 2.25 miles north to the parking area directly across Colorado Blvd from the Frederick Safeway.) We will pick among various hot waterfowl spots in the area including Milavec Reservoir (aka Frederick Recreation Area), Dacono Gravel Pits, St. Vrain State Park, Union Reservoir, Ish Reservoir, McIntosh Lake, Golden Ponds, Panama Reservoir, LUNA reservoir, etc. One of the interesting discoveries on this trip will be to assess flood damage to bird habitat in these places, many of which have yet to recover from the September disaster. Bring a lunch (leftover turkey is on the menu), dress appropriately and be prepared to car pool to minimize parking issues. A State Park Pass will be necessary at St. Vrain State Park. The return to Frederick will be by 3:00 p.m. Expect geese, swans, ducks, grebes, gulls and late migrants. Contact Bill Kaempfer by email at presid...@cfobirds.orgmailto:presid...@cfobirds.org if you are interested in participating. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group.
