[cobirds] Harris's Sparrow Carbondale (Garfield Cty) !
Hi all Just back from two great trips to Antarctica, The Falklands and South Georgia, to be welcomed by cool temps (much colder than we had down 'South') and a gorgeous first winter Harris's Sparrow in the backyard. Visitors welcome - email in advance! Good birding all Dick Filby Jetlagged - in sunny GARFIELD County! [cobirds] Merlin - S Platte and 88th Ave - Adams county
I visited Loveland today to pick up the Varied Thrush. Thank you, Sean. I had a couple of playful Rough-legged Hawks fly over while I waited for the bird to show. If Rough-legged Hawk's are the buteo of choice this season, and the Harris' Sparrow's are the Zonotrichia option, than Merlin's are the falcons to watch out for. I had a wet looking bird just south of the parking lot at 88th and Colorado Ave along the South Platte. There were several male and female Barrow's Goldeneyes up the river and about seven cormorants flying around. [cobirds] Re: Updated Colorado CBCs dates
I don't think the Summit County CBC has been going on, in recent years. [cobirds] Possible Barrow's Goldeneye (f) at Confluence Park, Denver
All, This morning on my way into work I saw two female goldeneyes under the Speer Bridge at Confluence Park, Denver. One of them appeared to have a yellow bill, indicating to me a female barrow's. I didn't have my binoculars as I was on my bike. There are also 8-10 hooded mergansers, and the 2 dippers continue in the vicinity as they have been for a month or more...as well as numerous gadwall, and some gulls. Confluence park is located near the REI at I-25 and Speer, accessed from 15th St. on to Platte Road. You can park in the REI parking lot for 1hr or continue under the Speer Bridge to the lot along Water Street along the Platte River Trail. -Matthew Baker -- sent from Thunderbird on Ubuntu -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group. [cobirds] Counts start Saturday
Hugh and all, Brandon is correct, I did some sleuthing and I couldn't find any info for a count this year in Summit County. Let me know if someone is doing one. Watch for the Geminid meteor shower during your pre-dawn owling, especially before dawn on Saturday. [cobirds] Fountain Creek CBC
Folks, Despite my best efforts to not coordinate this count, we will be holding the Fountain Creek CBC on Monday, December 16. If you would like to participate, you can sign up on the Audubon website (and I would like you to do this) by following this link: http://birds.audubon.org/christmas-bird-count Otherwise, please contact me via email so I can place you into a group. The Fountain Creek nature center is under renovation and is not available to us this year, nor is the Fountain public library. Ted Floyd has graciously offered the ABA conference room, but it is a bit far from the count circle, so we will meet at at 12:30 at he Subway on Mesa Ridge Pkwy at Fountain Ridge Road (there are a number of food options here). Feel free to email me with any questions. Cheers, -- Dan Maynard Boulder, CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group. [cobirds] Peublo Rarities
Greetings All Photos of many of the Pueblo City Park/Pueblo Res rarities have been uploaded onto http://www.flickr.com/photos/36088296@N08/ including the Glaucous x Herring Gull and the Glaucous-winged Gulls, both in second winter plumage. Since there was a GW Gull at Pueblo Res 1 January 2013, one wonders if this could be the same bird returning Cheers Steven Mlodinow Longmont CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group.
