2020-06-14 Thread Adrian Lakin (adrianlak...@gmail.com)
Hi Bill,

I saw at least 3 Northern Cardinal at Tamarack Areas 10 and 11 on the east
side on March 5th, but didn't see or hear any on my last visit on May 31st.

[cobirds] White-winged Dove Pueblo, old swan report from Divide

2020-06-14 Thread joe...@betterbirdwatching.com
I happened to see a White-winged Dove on June 8 while driving along I-25 in
Pueblo, N of Hwy.96. It flew just overhead across highway so was able to
make the 55 mph ID.

Also got some good historical reports recently from a private lake near
Divide, including Great and Snowy Egrets and White-faced Ibis. Also from
Fall of 2017, a brief visit from flock of 10 Tundra Swans, including an
immature.

[cobirds] Walden this morning; 8 male Wood Ducks (Boulder)

2020-06-14 Thread Richard Pautsch
There were 8 striking male Wood Ducks in a group of 14 on the most distant
pond on the right (as you walk west along the fence line) at 7:30 this
morning at Walden. Also heard a Chat singing, and saw one Eastern
Kingbird. Our summer nesting birds were still singing away.

[cobirds] Another way to 'bird' from home

2020-06-14 Thread Diana Beatty
The CFO fantasy birding games we held last month exposed about 30 people
to the world of fantasy birding as a way to enjoy a birding-related
activity from home. It is not a bad way to start to learn what birds exist
where depending on how you play the game.

I wanted to share another quirky option some people may enjoy, called
Google Street View Birding. As you can probably guess, the object is to
find identifiable birds in Google Street View in Google maps and share your
findings in a Facebook group -
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2028802470510541/

The "life list" of the group is at about 1200 species.

[cobirds] Common Loon - Standley Lake in Jeffco

2020-06-14 Thread Donna Stumpp
Saw an immature Common Loon on the south shore of Standley Lake about 10:30
this morning. It was a bit more to the east of the middle of the south
shore, a few hundred yards out. Very surprising. See photo below clearly
showing loon bill, white front and sides of neck and white under eye.
Looking at the current locations of other Loons, it clearly was not Pacific
or Arctic, and bill isn't fat enough for yellow-billed. Thus, Common
immature.

Sure the lack of motor boats is contributing to the great birds we're
seeing around and on the lake this year! Sounds like paddle-boarding and
kayaking will start up sometime in July! Can't wait!
