[cobirds] Bob Evans needs ride to convention

2014-08-19 Thread Maggie Boswell
Bob lives in AZ and asked me to post this for him.

I am planning to attend the CFO Convention and am looking for ride share
transportation from the Denver-Boulder area to Sterling and back.

I have not been a member of the listserv for sometime. I would prefer not to
subscribe, because I get more e-mails than I care to deal with already, but I
thought that a one time post with a request for a ride share might be the best
way to go.

I checked the CFO website thinking that there might be ride share information
there, but I did not find anything.

My contact information is as follows:

revans9...@aol.com

Telephone before August 23 520-212-4580
Telephone after August 23303-818-5256

[cobirds] N Cardinal/Indigo Bunting/Boulder

2014-07-21 Thread Maggie Boswell

The Northern Cardinal was calling part way up Hawthorn Gulch this morning.
This is the same location he has been seen in the past (trail head at west end
of Hawthorn). He has also been seen occasionally in Sanitas Valley this summer.

An Indigo Bunting male has been singing in the morning in the vicinity of
Maxwell House on the east side of Sanitas (west end of Maxwell, follow the
driveway up behind the smoke stack, parking for employees only after 8 a.m.).

[cobirds] Winter Wren/Wild Basin/Boulder Co

2011-07-27 Thread Maggie Boswell

A singing Winter Wren was recorded in Wild Basin (fee area) on July 25. The
bird can be heard about 100 m below the second bridge on the trail to Calypso
Cascade. This is the same location as the Winter Wren was observed in July,
2001. No subspecies was determined for that individual.

Pacific Wren nests as close as the Uinta Mountains of Utah, so it would seem to
be the more probable troglodyte to be singing at Wild Basin. That this bird is
a Winter Wren has been confirmed by the recordings/spectrograms.

[cobirds] more explicit Blackburnian directions/Boulder

2011-05-25 Thread Maggie Boswell
COBird folks:

There is an path underpass that follows Boulder Creek under Arapahoe between
33rd and Foothills Parkway. A short distance south of that 3 paths converge
and there is a brick-edged flower planter in the middle of these paths. You
can see the underpass. The bird was visible from the planter area initially.
It then moved up-stream 100 - 150 yds.

Peter Gent and Bruce Webb looked for it later in the morning and eventually
found it on the nw side of Boulder Creek about 300 yds west of where it was
seen initially. Peter said one would have to be on the north side of the creek
to see it at this point. It was in a stand-alone cottonwood when they saw it.
His impression was that it was moving back east.

Free, legal parking is available at Scott Carpenter Park on the SW corner of
30th and Arapahoe. One can pick-up the bike path from the park and head east.

[cobirds] CFO members: have you moved? expired?

2011-03-16 Thread Maggie Boswell
CFO members:

Although the next issue of Colorado Birds won't be mailed until later in April,
I'll be preparing the mailing list in the next two weeks. If you've moved
since the January issue, please send my your new address.

If your membership expires at the end of March you will get the April issue as
a 'grace' issue, but renewing sooner takes less data entry and does not affect
your renewal date.

Check your mail label to see when your membership is due. If it reads
expired that means your membership ended 3/31/2011.

[cobirds] Neotropic Cormorant/Lower Latham Res

2009-05-19 Thread Maggie Boswell

While doing a Big Day today Bill Kaempfer, John Vanderpoel, Gary
Matthews and Todd Deininger spotted a Neotropic Cormorant on a sand
spit on the east side of Lower Latham Reservoir. There is a oil
gas road (no trespassing) off Weld Co 47 Rd that leads to the spit.
The bird is visible from 47 Rd. It was in the company of a Double-
crested Cormorant so they were able to compare size in addition to
other field marks.
Bill called this in at 1:30 p.m.
