Installing current C2 on tomcat 3.2.2: Problem: The sitemap handler's sitemap is not available

2001-05-29 Thread Bjarne Jensen

I have downloaded the newest Cocoon2 from CVS, my build was fine :-) And
know I have tried to follow the installing instructions (rename
parser.jar->xparser.jar etc) - but I am stuck. My Tomcat 3.2.2 starts fine,
but when I tries to acces http://localhost:8080/cocoon/ I get the
exception:" org.apache.cocoon.ProcessingException: The sitemap handler's
sitemap is not available." In an old posted mail (01/03-2001 by Peter
Fleisher), the answer to a similar question was to delete the work
directory. I have tried to delete my tomcatc2\work and
tomcatc2\bin\repository but the problem remains. Hopes for help.

PS: Is there anywhere a large bundle with tomcat and C2, that does not
require configuration (just unzipping)?

Thanks in advance
-Bjarne

posting html allowed?

2001-05-29 Thread Denny

Hello All!

I've got a list of resource links for SVG that might be useful to some
of the other users of Cocoon...

Is this the place to post them? Is html allowed? Attachments?

Thanks

No, no, no. SVG is just as off-topic here as XSLT, PDF, Word, IBM and
Sex (except as related to Cocoon).

svg cocoon

2001-05-29 Thread Denny

Hello Ulrich

I understand in part why you say no to posting HTML links to SVG
resources ...but Cocoon comes "ready to serve" SVG but as far "we" know
(noone has identified a live site serving SVG with Cocoon) the SVG
component of Cocoon has not been given it's just desserts...

cheers

It seems you have the latest version in the *old* CVS.

How did you get C2 : with the cocoon2 branch on the "xml-cocoon" module
(old one) or with the "xml-cocoon2" module (the good one) ?

It's not even in beta yet, so I wouldn't announce anything till the
final release.

2001-05-29 Thread Giacomo Pati

Quoting "Pertzsch, Christoph" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

You've got an old version (should be 2.0a7 now written down in the build.xml
file). Probably you've checked out the xml-cocoon2 branch from the xml-cocoon
repository instead of the head branch of the xml-cocoon2 repository. Look at
http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/cocoon2/install.html

What is not in beta? SVG? Yes, that's true the idea though was to
indicate to the cocoon folks that SVG IS available and that the
technology, though new, like C1 and C2, is powerful and interesting...

[C1] xinclude tags not processed if called inside a taglib (3 steps approach)

2001-05-29 Thread JEULIN Olivier

Hello,
I'm trying to use a custom taglib to include (parts of) xml files.
My goal is to achieve a complete separation between xml sources, xsp which
merge them, and further XSLT/XSL processing. I would also like to have all
"cocoon-process" instructions grouped in the xsp file.

If I uncomment my tag "toto:title" and the call to xsp and its stylesheet,
xinclude instructions work fine.
But, if I put them back, xinclude instuctions are left as is (but Xinclude
seems to be call, as it inserts a comment: "processed by XInclude" !?). (see
attached html files)

I have tried to insert dynamicaly in the
xsp:page template: it doesn't work either.

What's the correct way to do it ?

(Im using cocoon 1.8.2 and tomcat 3.2.1-1)

Here are my 3 files:

Re: [C2] Parameters to control Aggregation

2001-05-29 Thread Peter Hargreaves

OK, I'll explain.

This is my 'menu.xsp' structure (it's xsp because I intend to add
dynamic content later on):

...

...

When my user requests 'menu.xsp?select=cocoon/sample/manage'
I would like to aggregate 'menu.xsp' (as above) with 'forms/employee'.
When my user requests 'menu.xsp?select=cocoon/sample/insdept'
I would like to aggregate 'menu.xsp' (as above) with 'forms/add-department'.

I don't seem to be able to do this because aggregation doesn't provide a
way for my first aggregated page to determine which is the second
aggregated page. Or does it?

If I use where I have in menu.xsp
then I seem to get all the pages of my site included before my
subsequent stylesheet removes the unwanted ones. Not an economic approach!

If I use the sitemap approach to aggregation, I need to pass
'forms/add-department' from my first aggregated page (menu.xsp) to the
sitemap so that it can be used as the second aggregated page.

I hope the above helps for any enhancements to aggregation (removing the
v), or have I missed something? Any comments/work-arounds on the above
would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Peter.

P.S. I would also like to pass parameters from aggregated page to the
next aggregated page.

If mean i18n in Cocoon, then the answer is 'no'. Otherwise I would know

Btw, what did you used to get indian digits? Did you used NumberFormat and

I am going to implement date and numner formatting possibilitites in the

sub-sitemap and redirect

In the main sitemap, I have mounted a sub-sitemap like:

In the sub-sitemap, there is this entry

Now, if I request /cocoon/sub, I get redirected to /cocoon/sub/foobar,
which is what I want.
However, if I request /cocoon/sub/, I get redirected
/cocoon/sub/sub/foobar, which is not found.

Is this the desired behaviour? If so, how should I correct my pipelines

[c2] cocoon.log outside of servlet context

2001-05-29 Thread Sven Kuenzler

Hi Cocooners,

how do I get the main Cocoon log into a directory outside of the
servlet context?
The comment in web.xml says

Note that this path must be specified as an absolute path into
your filesystem
and it is not rooted at the servlets context path. Also note that
the path
must end with a file separator character.

Apparently, this information is deprecated. I also tried something like
"file://tmp/" which did not help either.

Any ideas?

Q. How often is C2 updated?
A. Subscribe to xml-cocoon2-cvs, and you will receive notifications of cvs commits.

Q. How to update?
A. Go to you cvs checkout directory, and do a 'cvs update'.
cvs is usually installed by default on unix systems. On windows there are a few GUI
programs to use CVS. You will find a win32 port of the command-line client in the
cygwin tool set, released by Redhat.

C2 pipeline probs

2001-05-29 Thread Maring, Steve

I'm still quite a bit hazy on how to properly construct pipelines in C2a7.
The docs and examples don't seem to be clearing it up too much for me.

For instance, I'm trying to create a classic "Hello World" that uses
XInclude to pull a message in from another XML file. I've added:

to the sitemap.xmap, and the pipeline for my webapp looks like this:

helloworld.xml:

The Message

message.xml:

Hello World!

helloworld.xsl:

http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform";>

I'm just getting:
org.apache.cocoon.ProcessingException: Failed to execute
pipeline.:java.lang.NullPointerException at
org.apache.cocoon.components.pipeline.CachingEventPipeline.process(CachingEv
entPipeline.java:228) at

org.apache.cocoon.Cocoon.process(Cocoon.java:287) at

Any help would be appriciated.

Re: Installing current C2 on tomcat 3.2.2: Problem: The sitemaphandler's sitemap is not available

2001-05-29 Thread Eirik Dentz

I ran into the exact same problem. I noticed that the build.xml file wasn't
copying the tools.jar from my j2sdk/lib properly, but I copied it manually
over to both the $TOMCAT_HOME/lib and the
$TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/cocoon/WEB-INF/lib/ directories. But the error
message persists.

I was also getting the same error message with Tomcat 3.2.2b5 and 3.2.1. My
Tomcat installations have worked properly. I'm running Tomcat on a
Debian/Linux(2.2.18 kernel) box with the Blackdown j2sdk1.3.0. My
cocoon.log is attached.

Any pointers, suggestions for troubleshooting this would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks

Could you please quickly point out how you are connecting to SQLServer,
i.e.
- what jdbc driver (freetds, jdbc-odbc-bridge, ...)
- what taglib (ESQL...)
- what modifications to C2 config files where necessary?
- are you using connection pooling? do you have to switch it on/off for

Do you have a small sample that is known to be working. Let's say
fetching something from the "pubs" sample database?

That would help me a lot. MANY thanks in advance

xinclude and cinclude in C2

I keep seeing reference to the aggregate.xsp sample as being a good example

I'm running C2a7 now. Does ANYBODY have a working example of an include?
I'm desperate here. I'm going to get Brio shoved down my throwt if I can't

What the heck is a "transparent include" with cinclude? And assuming that I
could get it to work, what advantage does it have over xinclude?

though it would seem to be easy as pie to write an SVGFormatter for c1, if
anyone wants to take a gander at it.

change the element name from 'foo' to 'include'. there's a bug in the way
xsp creates attributes with namespaces, and the clever workaround looks
for an element named 'include' with attributes named 'xinclude:href', etc.

Document() function

2001-05-29 Thread Matteo Colombo

I tried to use something like that but It dosen't work.
Is it Cocoon that ignore document() function?
I'm asking that because it's a little bit strange, infact Cocoon use Xalan
as XSLT processor, and with Xalan document() function works well. So where's
the problem?

Thanks in advance.

You should control aggregation in your sitemap not in your
programs/xsp. Why don't you do it the other way around?

Thanks for the hint. The pattern of the matchers to the mount element
should be "sub/**". In the sub-sitemap a redirect should not include the
url prefix of the sub sitemap else you cannot relocate the sub sitemap
to another url prefix without changing all the patterns in there..

But now don't you need to have two matchers in the main sitemap:

Which means the sequence looks like:

.../cocoon/sub --> .../cocoon/sub/ --> .../cocoon/sub/foobar

Which seems to me like one redirect too many. How about adding a
parameter to the "mount" element that would deal with the trailing
backslash issues?

you should write it in that way:

No, it's the part of Xalan.

Perhaps, he can't find the users.xml, the path to the file for the document
function needs to be relative to the XSL-stylesheet document, NOT the XML
document.

cincludes can include sitemap uris. xincludes cannot. cincludes used to be
performed using the CIncludeSAXConnector, but i think it's disappeared at
the moment. XIncludes can be done using the xinclude transformer just like
you'd use any other transformer.

I'm not an expert, but check that xml4j.jar supplied with Mac OS X is
*not* in your classpath. (Move it to your desktop while testing.)
That worked for me.

SV: Transforming XML into CSV

2001-05-29 Thread Bjarne Jensen

Maybe this is the same thing as with PDFs and IE5. IE5 takes the URL over
the mime-type, so you have to put a fake "&fake=.pdf" in your URL. So you
just change the ".pdf" to ".cvs" or ".xls"?
Well don't know if this helps you or if I miusunderstood your question.

A presentation I created on Cocoon2 for internal audience ...

2001-05-29 Thread KUMAR,PANKAJ (HP-Cupertino,ex1)

Hi,

We have been looking at using Cocoon2 for some of our internal development
at Middleware Division of HP.

To increase the Cocoon awareness within my organisation, I created a
PowerPoint presentation on "Understanding Cocoon2" and am making the same
avaialble, in HTML format, to the Cocoon users and developers at
http://www.pankaj-k.net/uc2/ ( a page at my personal site ).

As my own exposure to Cocoon is limited ( not more than a couple of weeks ),
the presentation may contain inaccuracies. If you do spot one, please let me
know and I will correct it.

In the meanwhile, feel free to browse it, download it, link it ...
