xml page1 calls xml page2

2001-06-14 Thread Simone Bortolaso

My situation is just a standard case where from a
begin page (index.xml) i wantto navigate farward an back toother
page in my site.
The index.xml calls for example a
second.xmlpage in my browser.
Can i do this withC1?Is there a little
examples?
Thank in advance

Yes, I have a working stylefree example with cocoon2b1. Put
 something like
 this in your sitemap:

 map:match pattern=1
   map:generate src=1/source.xml/
   map:transform src=1/style.xslt/
   map:serialize type=html/
 /map:match
 map:match pattern=2
   map:generate src=2/source.xml/
   map:transform src=2/logic.xslt/
   map:serialize type=html/
 /map:match
 map:match pattern=3
   map:generate src=3/spec_layout.xml/
   map:transform src=3/logic2.xslt/
   map:serialize type=html/
 /map:match

The complete source is attached. It uses a subsitemap, which is
mounted like this in your main sitemap:
 map:pipeline
 map:match pattern=stylefree/**
 map:mount uri-prefix=stylefree src=stylefree/
 check-reload=yes reload-method=synchron/
 /map:match
 /map:pipeline

RE: [C2] Flash

2001-06-14 Thread Sylvain BERGEON

Dmitry Skavisk, is actually developping
a Generator-like servlet.

JGenerator 1.2.4 (http://flashgap.com)

It's an open development effort (source forge),
It's working fine, as well as the Macromedia Generator,
It actually exploit data from text files or jdbc connection.

But they are trying to implement xml data connection.

In my opinion (but I don't know nothing about Java development),
JGenerator could be used as a Flash Serializer that produce a
binary swf (Flash) file by processing a swt (template) with a
xml data file .

Try it and tell me your opinion.

Bye.

As I do understand it, the solution of enhydra is to take a template and use
the internal xml parser of flash to change some attributes of the movie.
A much better way would be generating the whole movie from a xml file.
I found one resource on the web for that (beside on commerical one):
http://www.tivano.de/opensource/flash/
But the writer hasn't been released.

But my colleague's Outlook (Win2000) embeds it in the message,

However, you can take it from the mail archiv on the web:

While I have no knowledge of Cocoon2 or your problem, I can say one

If you want to do any serious work in the XML field you must get rid of
Internet Explorer - use a different browser that complies to the HTTP
standard. This will get rid of an amazing number of blank pages, plus
you'll be sure that the stuff you develop works on any HTTP-compliant
browser. There are many good browsers out there, so there is no reason
to use the one that tries to embrace and extend the Internet. With the
coming smart tags you can add deface.

While I'm usually not a religious person, I must say that I am shocked at
the way Microsoft tries to make their software subtly incompatible with
the rest of the world - thereby trying to force users to abandon free
standards and flock to the Microsoft Web. I think we - in the sense of the
ASF and its supporters - should take a stand at this point. This behavior
of Microsoft hurts us not only in a religious or social way, it also makes
a mockery of the technical work done at ASF and other places.

The most frequent answer on this list is RTFM, but CYFB (change your
fucking browser) is taking over :)

Uli,

while I agree with you on the nasty Microsoft ways, I'd like to point out

That said, I can (barely) convince my customers to go the XML/Java way

Can't be done out of the box. You either have to write an equivalent to
fop, only for generating PostScript instead of PDF (but how to deal with
output device specific information??) or you convert the PDF put out by
fop to PostScript with some tool (GhostScript, Acrobat Reader etc.)

Most linux dists come with pstools, which include a pdf2ps executable. You can always
use that.

I remember I had similar problems the first time with an older version of
cocoon2 . It was because the document() function in
xsl:variable name=layout select=document('layout.xml')/
didn't act the way it was expected:
The path had to be relative to the servlet context, not to the stylesheet file.
So I had to write:
xsl:variable name=layout select=document('stylefree/layout.xml')/

I think, this could be a problem of xalan-2.0.1. I'm using xalan-2.1.0 now as
it comes with cocoon2.0b1.

Hope this helps,

I am not a unix expert, but I have found that the root user sometimes will
have dificulty instantiating an X based program esp. if 'su'd as another user.
Consult your X documentation for a valid setting for the DISPLAY environment
variable.

Also, the bit depth of your Xvfb has serious consequenses with generated
graphics. You are in essence limiting your image to the color pallette of
your Xvfb environment, and 256 color images don't look as nicely as 16 bit
or 24 bit images. The exception to that rule is when you start with a
higher bit depth, and select the colors you need (i.e. downsampling to a
GIF image).

thanks again, now I was able to install it.
Nevertheless the problem is still with me:
Example 1 : Works :) (hence, sitemap is working)
  Example 2 : Nothing appears :(
  Example 3 : Nothing appears :(

Is there anyone out there having the same problem ?

I remember I had similar problems the first time with an older version of
cocoon2 . It was because the document() function in
 xsl:variable name=layout select=document('layout.xml')/
didn't act the way it was expected:
The path had to be relative to the servlet context, not to the
 stylesheet file.
 So I had to write:
 xsl:variable name=layout select=document('stylefree/layout.xml')/

I think, this could be a problem of xalan-2.0.1. I'm using
 xalan-2.1.0 now as
 it comes with cocoon2.0b1.

 Hope this helps,

 Subject: Cocoon Tomcat Apache

 Hello.

I trying to install Cocoon 1.8.2 on Tomcat+Apache. In fact, I wonder
if it's possible, as I have a lot virtuals host for my developpers, to
 have a centralized cocoon.properties.

I've successfully installed Cocoon on Tomcat and Apache but there is a
 WEB-INF directory (with cocoon.properties web.xml) in each
developper directory). I hope there is a simplier solution.

I've tried some solution (like putting the content of WEB-INF/web.xml
in $TOMCAT_HOME/web.xml), but it still don't work. Then, is there a
 good way to do?

 Thanks.

C2 - Dynamically choose XSL-Template in XSP

2001-06-14 Thread Stefan Seifert

Hello.

This is my problem: With Cocoon 1 I created a XSP-Page, which builds an
XML-Stream using the ESQL TagLib from a Database. The Path for the XSL
to use was also fetched from the database and applyed using the
following statement:

  xsp:pi target=xml-stylesheet
href=esql:get-string column=TemplateURL/
type=text/xsl
  /xsp:pi

Unfortunately this approach does not work with Cocoon2, where the
XSL-Transformation is defined in the pipeline-Definition. How is it
possible to solve this with Cocoon2?

Re: Problems with Xvfb

2001-06-14 Thread eirikdentz

Did you check to see what your DISPLAY environmental variable is set to,
prior to starting tomcat?
i.e. echo $DISPLAY

If you are starting Xvfb without a wrapper script that sets it for you,
you'll probably need to set it with:
export DISPLAY=:0
The other thing is that you might need to configure the Xserver to allow the
user that you run Tomcat under to connect to the :0 display. Many default
configurations only allow the root user to connect to the :0 (default)
display

If you start tomcat as root, you shouldn't have that problem, which is what
you might want to do during the configuration and testing phase. Of course
that's a security risk that you probably wouldn't want to take on a
production system, ;-)

2001-06-14 Thread Uli Mayring

On Thu, 14 Jun 2001, William Bagby wrote:

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that IE is not

Exactly. We as Cocooners see that, for example, in the infamous IE/PDF bug
(see FAQ). It happens, because IE ignores parts of the HTTP standards in
favor of a self-invented technique, that (according to MS) works better
for Windows users. They are perverting the Internet to protect their
platform.

I am thrilled at the prospect of not having to use IE, but I can only use
something else if it'll *work* on IE. I think what I'm looking for here is
 some reassurance.

There is no consolation, it's too late. Microsoft is well on its way to
sabotage the Internet by ignoring standards. The only thing we can do is
stop using their products. Sorry for sounding religious, but with the
latest smart tags controversy I am beginning to get very angry at MS.

Could you please recommend browser(s) to use, or at least tell us which one
 you use?

Use any browser that supports standards. Mozilla, Konqueror, Opera come to
mind. I'm using Netscape 4.* and will switch to Mozilla, once it's out the
door.
