multiple request problem.

2001-12-30 Thread Helena Ginzburg

Hi,
I've a problem with Cocoon1.8. One client is working properly. In stress
test with 5 clients 2 or 3 get errors.

Has anyone had this kind of problem and can reply with a solution to this?

using Cocoon WITH Cold Fusion

2001-12-30 Thread Lisa Bos

Have read a lot
comparing CF to Cocoon, but I have a different need:

I have a client
who is using Cold Fusion. Client wants to start using XML + RDBMS for content
management. Wants to continue using CF for Web. We have no control over this
decision. Their content today doesn't change frequently. Overnight updates are
fine for most data-driven pages for now. (In other words, performance isn't yet
a big deal for them.) Some text content would need to be updated more quickly.
BTW - They do publish rather large, structured docs to their site, which is the
primary justification for the use of XML.

My broad question
is: What's the best way to manage the delivery of XML content to Cold Fusion (in
combo with data from Oracle)? Need to generate CF and plain HTML pages (we are
talking simplistic use of CF here). Definitely want to use XSLT, but its the
larger management issue that concerns me.

More specifically
for this list: Is Cocoon a reasonable choice for this application
(knowing ahead of time that this might be a somewhat goofy, redundant approach)?

One goal is to
choose an approach that will make it easy for CF to go away at the right time,
and that is straightforward in its handling of XML/XSLT/etc. Might still be a
limited number of CF pages that pull data directly from database, but those
could be transitioned over time as the client is convinced.

Thanks,
Lisa

See the examples first, it's too long to explain everything here ;-)

Tomcat 4.0 developers say that it's better to use it directly on port 80 if
your app is dynamic, with apache also if there are many static resources.
For Cocoon it's basically the same.
Try the two and keep the fastest. Period.

Plaudits and dumb questions...

2001-12-30 Thread Stephen Clarke

Hi,

I've just discovered the joys of Cocoon. Installation of both
Cocoon 2 and Tomcat 4 on Win95 went remarkably smoothly despite
my trepidation. The only problem I recall is running out of
environment space when running the batches. I had to make a
shortcut to the batches and control the environment space through
the shortcut properties.

Now I've got some really dumb questions which you are free to
ignore. I won't be this stupid for long. I've got as far as
serving up my own XML/XSLT combo. Fantastic. Now,

1. How do I serve a static HTML file, ie. what do I have to put
in sitemap?

2. What reason is there not to abandon Apache httpd altogether
and simply assign Cocoon to port 80 and serve everything from
there. (Suspect 1 and 2 may be connected ).

3. How do I serve my PHP files through Cocoon? I notice there is
a PHPGenerator in the libraries. But what do I put in the
sitemap. What about CGI / Perl ? Any chance of that?

4. Upon whom do I pour my plaudits for this wonderful
institution, cocoon.

regards,

Stephen Clarke

RE: encoding Shift_JIS problem in cocoon 2.0

2001-12-30 Thread Priya Padate

Hi bernhard,

If it is an static xml page then the encoding is working. so i
think transformer and the serializer are working fine. when make the same
page as an xsp page then it is not working. it is diplaying
i have attached both the static xml and the xsp page . In my site map i have
confiured like this

The serializerencoding is already set. Do we have to specify the
ServerPageGenerator to handle the xsp with Shift_JIS encoding?
Thanks
Priya

Re: encoding Shift_JIS problem in cocoon 2.0

2001-12-30 Thread Bernhard Huber

Hi,
Can you sort out when the conversion to ??? chars happens?
Knowing this helps to understand who is guilty, the xsp-generator, the
transformer, or the serializer
1) Try to remove the xsp step delivering the xml as-is via cocoon
2) Do you use a transformer step?

bye bernhard
