Antwort: Retrieving init parameters via HttpContext in Cocoon2

2002-11-20 Thread michael_hampel

Hello,

For us the following works, in your web.xml you have to specify your
 parameters like:

                    whatever
                    whateverValue
                    whatever description

Then we use context.getInitParameter("whatever") to retrieve a
 parameter.

I reckon that the .fo file is screwed. I mean did you use the exact file
of the tutorial? It seems that in your fo:page-sequence you don't have a
'page-sequence-master' for that reason u get a internal server error.

But it would be nice to see your code.

Good on ya mate. Greetings to downunder.

Output to file/ replace file

2002-11-20 Thread Rob Hoopman
Hi,
I realise this is a question that probably has come up before on the list but I can't
seem to find it in the archives or on google.

I have two questions:
1. How can I manipulate files using cocoon, I have some xml data I want to be able to
change without storing it in a database.

2. The same question but for binary data, I can upload binary files just fine, but
haven't found an obvious way to pick it up from the 'upload-directory' and store it in
it's final location.

Pointers to information or past threads apreciated.

XMLForm debug logging

2002-11-20 Thread Kirchhoff, Lars
Hello

I've got a problem with the logging mechanism. I'm quite new to cocoon
and the whole java/xml stuff.

So I tried to get my own XMLForm running and have some problems with it.
This is why I would like to embed some debug infos in the flow-logic .java
file.
Therefore I setup the sitemap this way:

in the flow.java file I put the following statement in the perform()
function:
   getLogger().debug("want some debugging");

I thougt now this message can be found in the sitemap log, but I couln't
find it so far. Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong or where to find
the debug message?

thanks

best regards

I was just at the bookstore and on a whim, I picked up _Beginning XSLT_ by
Wrox Press. Out of curiosity, I checked the index to see if Cocoon was
mentioned, and there was a whole section on it! A great deal of chapter
14, was dedicated to server-side XSLT with Cocoon. It's nice to see
Cocoon getting press in books that aren't just all about Cocoon.

Retrieving init parameters via HttpContext in Cocoon2

2002-11-20 Thread Peter Smink
Hello,

We are using Tomcat/4.0.4 and Cocoon 2.0.3 and are not able to retrieve any
init parameters
defined in web.xml from within an XSP-page via the Cocoon built-in
parameter: context (Servlet Context):

1. context.getInitParameter("paramName") results in an empty string value
2. the method getInitParameters is not available via the wrapper, so we are
not able to see which parameters are available.

Can anybody help me with this?

Thanks,

Re: XMLForm: dynamic content listbox

Hello.

I had a very similar problem a few days ago. The way to go is the itemset
tag as used in the wizard demo. Take a look at the 'userIdentity.xml' file
where the Hobbies get listed:

Hobbies

All you have to do is to change the UIType to the one desired and fill the
items with values taken from the DB, for example from the action.

Hope it helps,
Josema.

Hi José,

The simplest way to get a basic app up and running is
by putting it under mount.

As for simple examples... Without wanting to sound
like I am fobbing you off (;-)) there is plenty of
stuff in the documentation and sample apps (e.g. the
Hello World stuff) that demonstrates basic principles.
You can also still access my idiots guide stuff at

have some basic examples. This was in the main docs
but needs some rework so is not there at the mo.

Let me know how you get on and if you need any more

Re: URI parts extraction

2002-11-20 Thread Steven Cummings
Yatin,

You could just pass the whole URI in as one parameter and write templates that
recursively extract the parts. It's a little tedious, but it can be done. I don't have
an example handy but O'Reilly's "XSLT" by Doug Tidwell comes to mind (because that's
where I learned the technique). I recommend having that book nearby if you're going to
do any serious amount of XSLT writing. HTH.

Re: URI parts extraction

2002-11-20 Thread Yatin Shah
 Thanks Steven.

The URI can have variable number of dirs.

So the wildcard matcher with it's keys will not help.
(ie. where {1} is dir1, {2} is dir2, ..etc
can't be used since URI does not have fixed number of dirs.)
Are there any other options?
If I use XSL tranform then question still remains as how to get the
variable number of param values?

Thank

Yatin,

I would suggest writing an XSL Transform that you pass the URI parts to as parameters. You'll have to generate a dummy document to initiate the transformation.

The template will look something like this:

I'm assuming you have a fixed number of dirs before the file. Hope this helps.

In a logicsheet that could work but you need to make sure that a) you
use xsl:copy-of to insert your parameter and b) the esql:get-int is
still inside the correct esql:row-results & friends.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list). Everybody is free to join, etc etc - but
joining and doing anything else than lurking comes with a price...:

I know "seriously considering to actually work together with me"
sounds quite heavy but to be honest, I just experienced the amount of
work involved setting up this kind of semi-professional, but budget-wise
still manageable event, and I'd rather like fewer people who are really
willing to help out but then also are prepared to donate actual time to
it (inside normal working hours), rather than lots of volunteers for
discussion, ranting and whatelse, but no actual work being carried out.

Pretty negative, I know, but that's the experience from also being
a steering member of the xmlbelux user group, which conference &
exhibition tomorrow are attracting only half as many people as our
gettogether, even though there was a much bigger working budget. This is
partly because of quite a few of us steering members who didn't have
real bandwidth when the time was there to do things.

Matthew and I did some talking (too little) yesterday, and at least the
two of us -who might appear as having a vested commercial interest in
this kind of events-, are pretty much convinced that getting bigger
would be nice, but that we weren't willing to give up the formula and
authenticity of this event for that matter. Hence remaining a free event
if at all possible, hence having sponsors to carry the weight of the
budget, but still not being prepared for making a commercial event out
of it (and I regard ApacheCon as being a commercial event for that
matter - with sponsor speaking slots etc etc).

Hope this establishes a good working spirit for next year's event.

Passing database result as parameter in XSL

2002-11-20 Thread Ebert Andreas
Hello,

I am trying to pass a parameter from one XSL template to another using the
code snippet below. The value of the parameter should be obtained from a
database. Unfortunately, the code does not work and I do not have any idea
why. Is it possible to do that with XSLT or do I misunderstand something
completely? I tried different ways (e.g. assign the database result to a
variable and then use it in the with-param tag), but the resulting Java code
simply seems to be empty.

If I hardcode the parameter (e.g. replace '' with '4') everything works fine.

Thanks,

Andreas

So, everyone who couldn't attend will get very frustrated and depressed
by looking at these nice pictures. Which means: an even bigger GetTogether
next time ;) (And actually I'm a little bit depressed because we had to
leave yesterday before this interesting looking social evening event...
grumpf).

It was really a *great* event with an absolutely perfect organization.
So, again, many thanks to Steven, Marc, Bruno, their wifes and
everyone who helped to make *the event* happening.

RE: cocoon to recognise tag libraries

2002-11-20 Thread robert_hitchins
Vicki,

I'm kind of new at Cocoon, but I had a similar problem and what I did
was to use Java code to generate an XML file from the dynamic data and
pass that to the default generator in Cocoon. I suppose you could also
generate SAX events and pass them to Cocoon as well if you didn't want
the XML file to exist on your server's filesystem.

Subject: cocoon to recognise tag libraries

I have cocoon2 running on oc4j9.0.3 and a j2ee application (ipp) also
running on oc4j.

from my application I need to be able to convert a jsp to pdf using
cocoon. I currently have a jsp with static data that converts to pdf.

I don't know how to get cocoon to recognise java tags specific to my
application that are in the jsp. These java tags create dynamic data
for the pdf. For example in my jsp I have <%@ page
import="com.wcq.waf.util.tracer.Debug" %> and cocoon throws an error
because the class is application specific.

Thanks
Vicki

Re: Open source or commercial CMS options

Either really. We are currently evaluating various commercial content management

not adverse to looking at commerical offerings as well...

Do you know of any?

Cocoon + CMS Integration

2002-11-20 Thread Nicholas Hemley
Hello,

Is anybody aware of a content management system that incorporates Cocoon as part of a
system that includes XML authoring, workflow and classification?

I am aware of Wyona (www.wyona.org) which uses the Xopus XML editor but are there any
others?

Any info would be appreciated...

Cheers,
Nic Hemley

it's an open source platform built for this goal.
It already has a stable core, an powerful IDE, etc.

See more details at http://www.interakt.ro/products/Krysalis/

What does "not work" mean? Its not touched by the xinclude transformer
and remains in the output?

Just a wild guess. Do you use exactly the same namespace
declaration for xi in the stylesheet and the static variant?

Two ESQL Questions

2002-11-20 Thread Michael Edge

I have a couple of ESQL questions:

1) If an ESQL query throws a database exception, is there any way to log the stack
trace to a file?
2) If an ESQL query throws a database exception, is there any way to handle this using
the section of the sitemap, so that all exceptions thrown, whether
during pipeline processing or application exceptions, are displayed in the same manner?

Regards

Michael

Hello Robert,

the only thing I can imagine at the moment is the missing or wrong
namespace declaration of XInclude. What does "does not work" mean? Do
you get any error message?

The third transformer is again an XSLT that should make nice HTML.

Note:

If I write the line in the file and call the xinclude

everything works.
But if I call the xinclude after the first xslt it does not work.

Does anyone have an idea ?

I don't know, you have to ask the XSLTC guys, maybe one is on this list?
At http://xml.apache.org/xalan-j/xsltc/index.html there is a link to
 ... 404 ;-)

Yes it does. I missed the move of transformers. Thanks for pointing it out.

It is working with xalan and not with xsltc. Do you know if
is yet-to-be-implemented? ...or why it isn't working?

Just asking - I'll look into it.

Thanks,

Phil

Re: Caching XML file

2002-11-20 Thread Kamal Shah
Hi,

I have a 16MB XML file. I want to know how to cache it.
It is used in the generator.

1. Do i need to restart tomcat once i change the
   cocoon.xconf file
2. Does the generator need additional paramerters?
3. Is there anything wrong with cocoon.xconf

I tried the standard things that I found and
currently "related" parts of my cocoon.xconf
file look like this:
