Your "xml-source" is a typical response from Xindice.

You have it within collection:result element of Xindice response. You just have
to transform this response to get the content of collection:result element(s).

What do you mean by "the procedure you have written to \"speak\" with the
database". How do you try to get data from the db. Do you use URL request or
something else?

What is your pipeline?

Sorry, my english isn't very good. :(
My problem is that I get no response from my database when I use Cocoon.
And I want to have the xml data from my xml database.
But the browser shows me only the procedure that I have written to "speak"
with the database

I hope these explain it.

This may be of some use to you, it's a snippet from my sitemap showing

You are also serializing as XML specifically in your sutemap which from
your email, does not sound like the effect you require. Try serializing
to html instead.

You tell cocoon the collection(db) you want to use in the URL. eg the following URL is
using the addressbook collection(db).

http://localhost:8080/cocoon/xmldb/addressbook/?xpath=//person[contains(fnam

Hi,
What source do you mean? The snippet you have sent is a result of
xpath query
on Xindice database (with xpath value
"//person[contains(fname,'John')]" on the
"/db/addressbook" collection).
What do you mean by "xml code to get xml data"? Xindice data are
retrieved by
URL's with or without xpath parameter. Then the result xml could be
processed
in a pipeline.

  src:col="/db/addressbook"

I only get the xml-source (above) on the Browser! ???

This is the part of the sitemap.xmap:

...
--
if I type this
http://localhost:8080/cocoon/xmldb/addressbook/?xpath=//person[contains(fnam

in my browser I get all data about John.

So I ask you some questions:

Do you know what I have done wrong?
How do cocoon know which DB I want to use in the xml-file?

I use Win 2k, Tomcat 4.0.4, Cocoon 2.0.3 (compiled on Java 1.3.x), Xindice

First, I think that jdk1.4 may cause some problems, but read in the archives
for more on that.

You don't need a new cvs-snapshot, just use cocoon2 normal release and
define the xmldb pseudo protocol in cocoon.xconf:

because the generator will be deprecated and is not so efficent.

Then remove the xmldb-samples in the sitemap and copy the xindice.jar
(different package names than dbxml) into cocoon.

Then you can generate SAX events by using

in the sitemap (this sample uses an xpath query - if you don't want to query
use the xml-object-id instead of everything beginning with '#').

If you want to include some database-xml in an xsp-file use:

If you want to update the database use the xmldb-transformer from the
scratchpad, but for the "update" execution you have to add a patch or
workaround because xalan removes the xupdate-namespace, you can also find
this in the archives.

At least this worked with me, I hope you can make it run

Hi folks,

I'm trying to find satisfactory versions of Cocoon and XIndice which work
together.

I am told that I need a CVS version of cocoon rather than the latest
release - but the CVS snapshots don't currently work.
(I am using Xinidice 1.0 and Tomcat 4.0something on RedHat Linux 7.2, and
Sun's JDK 1.4)

Any ideas? Is it ok discussing cvs snapshots on the "users" list?

Older versions of Cocoon use a deprecated generator system for talking to
Xindice rather than the now standard "source".

my little how-to

1- copy batik-libs,xerces,xalan,xml-apis from
$CATALINA_HOME/webapps/cocoon/WEB-INF/libs to $CATALINA_HOME/lib
2- add export CATALINA_OPTS='-Djava.awt.headless=true
-Duser.language=en' at the beginning of $CATALINA_HOME/bin/catalina.sh
3- add -Djava.endorsed.dirs=$XINDICE_HOME/java/lib to

4- patch

For starters, see:

I know nothing of Xindice but maybe that will get you going in the right direction.

Hi Axel,

have a look in the scratchpad at the sunrise authentication components. For
getting started how to use them look at:
http://www.need-a-cake.com/stories/2002/02/28/usingTheSunriseComponents.html

All you have to do to use the sample with Xindice is to replace
foo-user.xml in the foo-authuser pipeline with a resource querying your
user data from Xindice.

Make it work and put a guide together... Start with installing xindice,
default settings. Then, download Cocoon src version. Copy xindice.jar
into cocoon/lib/optional. Rebuild cocoon:
  build clean
  build -Dinclude.webapp.libs=yes webapp.

Try night CVS snapshot. It's easier then getting CVS version.

Correction:
  dbxml:xindice:///db/collection/resource#query
(IIRC; see sitemap)

  dbxml:xindice://host:port/db/collection/resource#query

Host and port are optional, defaults to localhost:4080

No, this is driver name. See cocoon.xconf.

Cocoon and Xindice idiots guide?

2002-03-11 Thread Alex McLintock

Would it be possible for someone to put together an idiots guide to using
Xindice with Cocoon2?

I am seeing conflicting advice in the mailing lists, docs, and website and
it is really confusing me. (Hence I am not in a position to write the
idiots guide myself :-(

Assume I don't care about old dbXML versions of the database, Xindice is
the current version.
(It was really confusing to have the API and program called the same thing:
When I see dbxml I never know whether it refers to the API or old software.)

Should I be using Generators? I can't find any relevant code in the recent
Cocoon2.0.rc2 build and am not keen to go to cvs if I can avoid it. The
website and docs say to use them - but people on the mailing list say not to.

When using the dbxml:xindice://db/somethingorotherquery source how do I
tell it *where* the database resides? Is the word "xindice" a machine name
in this example query?

Sorry for asking so many questions in the last couple of days...
