2016-08-11 Thread Shai Almog
I agree we need better themes. E.g. the new default getting started app is
a big improvement and we are working on some great demos.

There are good looking apps to various degrees e.g. this one is nice
although I don't like the color scheme:

So is this: https://www.codenameone.com/featured-travel2gether.html
And this: https://www.codenameone.com/featured-buua.html
And: https://www.codenameone.com/featured-qmarkets-mobile.html

Unfortunately with comments like these I'm not really sure what we can do.
Native UI's don't look good by default either, you need a designer to make
them shine. The same is true for us...

So if you want to make the UI look better please rephrase the comment as
constructive criticism e.g.:
Codename One's default themes/UI's can be improved by

2016-08-11 Thread Shai Almog
Hi,
I suggest using the Component Inspector tool and reviewing the UIID's in
the hierarchy. Try setting one of the UIID's to some other value with the
component inspector (e.g. Container) and see if the behavior changes and
that way you can pin the specific UIID that might be at fault.

No.
We update build.xml when you go into the settings and press OK. We then
prompt you with an offer to update to the latest. We update the build.xml
once every couple of months (we have an update coming this Sunday though).
You can just keep the file in git and remerge the changes as we do them.

What does this mean ? As you most likely already know, everything in a CN1
app can be changed. Steve had a demo of using a PSD to create a UI, so
anything is possible.

As for the featured apps, (one of which I wrote), they don't to my eyes
look a whole lot different to the vast majority of apps you'll find on the
app stores. Even some of the world's most popular apps don't have stellar
UI's IMO.

Re Xamarin - I doubt CN1 has the resources to compete with MS, but I think
the real competition in this space is React Native.

[codenameone-discussions] Re: Swiping effects specific container/multibutton height

2016-08-11 Thread CS
Dear Shai,

I tried everything ... double checking for identical customizations,
removing customization (all of them on MultiButton) etc. nothing helped.
After removing piece by piece of changes that I made to the form (in code)
I think I found the culprit. The problem is caused by the call of the
hideTabs() function. As soon as I removed this call everything worked as
expected (no more double sized elements). I would really like to have Tabs
element without tab "buttons". Is this something you can easily fix on your
part? Or do you know for a good workaround?

While testing swiping on iOS I noticed an "ugly" feature. If I pull down
the content of the tab (like pull for refresh) and at the same time swipe
to the next tab, when I go back to the tab, the content stays at the same
position as it was during previous swipe from the pull (but it should go
up). The same can be observed on simulator also. On Android is ok, since I
cannot pull down the content. Can I prevent this behaviour on iOS also
(pull down, since I do not need it)?

Thank you.

Best regards,
CS
