[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-904) Support fallback font options
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-904?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17445460#comment-17445460 ] Eirik Bakke commented on NETBEANS-904: -- Looking at the standard JDK fontconfig.properties.src file, the logical font "Monospaced" should defer to a font called "GulimChe" for Korean. Is this font installed? It should also be possible to edit fontconfig.properties.src in the JDK's "lib" directory to point to e.g. Noto, as an alternate font for Monospaced. Note that in NetBeans, this currently only works when one of the standard Java "logical" fonts are selected (e.g. Monospaced). > Support fallback font options > - > > Key: NETBEANS-904 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-904 > Project: NetBeans > Issue Type: Improvement > Components: editor - Options >Affects Versions: 8.2, 9.0, 10.0 >Reporter: NDelt >Priority: Major > Attachments: 2018_10_01_netbeans_snapshot_monospaced.png, > 2018_10_01_netbeans_snapshot_noto_sans_mono_cjk_kr_regular.png, > DejaVu-Sans-Mono-15.png, Source-Code-Pro-Medium-15.png > > > Currently I can't type text that the font cannot represents.(It is displayed > as broken text) > I would like to use back-up font options like _Fallback Fonts_ in IntelliJ > IDEA. -- This message was sent by Atlassian Jira (v8.20.1#820001) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: commits-unsubscr...@netbeans.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: commits-h...@netbeans.apache.org For further information about the NetBeans mailing lists, visit: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Mailing+lists

The only font I could find that displays the "U+2714 ✔ HEAVY CHECK MARK" character is DejaVu Sans Mono. I'm attaching screenshots that show the character in NetBeans using both DejaVu Sans Mono and Source Code Pro Medium. On Ubuntu, it would be great to be able to define DejaVu Sans Mono as a general fallback font. > Support fallback font options > - > > Key: NETBEANS-904 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-904 > Project: NetBeans > Issue Type: Improvement > Components: editor - Options >Affects Versions: 8.2, 9.0, 10.0 >Reporter: NDelt >Priority: Major > Attachments: 2018_10_01_netbeans_snapshot_monospaced.png, > 2018_10_01_netbeans_snapshot_noto_sans_mono_cjk_kr_regular.png, > DejaVu-Sans-Mono-15.png, Source-Code-Pro-Medium-15.png > > > Currently I can't type text that the font cannot represents.(It is displayed > as broken text) > I would like to use back-up font options like _Fallback Fonts_ in IntelliJ > IDEA. -- This message was sent by Atlassian Jira (v8.3.4#803005) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: commits-unsubscr...@netbeans.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: commits-h...@netbeans.apache.org For further information about the NetBeans mailing lists, visit: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Mailing+lists

I think NB used to show fallback fonts for CJK characters, but before JDK 8.0. I can work around this by setting the editor's font for default text to a font that has the CJK code pages. (Noto Sans Mono CJK TC; Noto Sans Mono CJK Jp; or Noto Sans Mono CJK Kr). However the monospace of the lower 256 ASCII characters these are not quite monospaced and therefore things do not quite align properly. It would be nice to add the ability to set Monospace font and have the editor find an appropriate font for the UTF-8 range that the main font cannot display. > Support fallback font options > - > > Key: NETBEANS-904 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-904 > Project: NetBeans > Issue Type: Wish > Components: editor - Options >Affects Versions: 8.2, 9.0, 10.0 >Reporter: NDelt >Priority: Major > > Currently I can't type text that the font cannot represents.(It is displayed > as broken text) > I would like to use back-up font options like _Fallback Fonts_ in IntelliJ > IDEA. -- This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v7.6.3#76005) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: commits-unsubscr...@netbeans.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: commits-h...@netbeans.apache.org For further information about the NetBeans mailing lists, visit: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Mailing+lists
