Not 'standard', but 'mandatory'. Dialing the alarm number even overrides
keylock, try it
on your current phone.
...which I've always thought was badly implemented. The emergency
services get thousands of false alarms from phones ringing from people's
pockets: the UK is particularly susceptible to this, with 999 as the
emergency number.

Perfectly sensible to have the emergency number override keylock, but
why not do it on a timer? If someone presses 9, then nothing for 1
minute, then 9, etc, keylock is not overridden. If someone presses three
9s in quick succession, then override keylock.

Don't know if this goes against the mandated operation - but if not, I
can't think of any likely downsides.

Cheers,

Ben

RE: Regarding hardware specs...

2007-01-01 Thread Dean Collins
I have to jump in to comment that I love the scroll wheel on my new
Cingular 8525 (aka HTC Hermes aka HTC TyTyn).

Having never owned a blackberry I never understood the attraction of a
scroll wheel with push select capability.

I do now.

2 thumbs up.
Cheers,
Dean

Having everything is good but impossible. But still I'd like to add one
wishlist item.

I'm interested in using pda-like gadgets with only one hand, and without
having to touch the screen. This is optimal e.g. when reading while in
metro.

Unfortunately this is going to be hard when there are only 2 buttons.
At least 3 are needed (2 for scrolling up/down, and one for
generic 'action'). Or a wheel + >=1 buttons.

Any chance to have a scrool wheel and/or more buttons (e.g. a
joystick-like
control that actually is equal to 4 or 5 buttons)?

Why isn't WiFi on rev. 1?

2007-01-01 Thread Chuck Pareto

I'm just wondering why WiFi isn't on the first generation Neo1973. It
seems that WiFi would be a perfect chip to dev. on especially with a
Linux OS because then we could install and develop SIP application to
use with VOIP services like Skype and Gizmo. If you guys haven't heard
of Gizmo, check it out it only costs 1 cent per minute anywhere in the
world. It's much cheaper than Skype. My buddy at work used his SIP
phone and has it configured with Gizmo its pretty cool!

Check the archives of this list, it has been discussed ad nauseam.

Executive summary: no free drivers for power-efficient chips.

Personally I would search using Google with

site:lists.openmoko.org

added to the search.
