Hi.

I thought I saw information about foldable (rollable?) keyboard for FR
but I can't find it now.

Does anyone recall it?

cheers,

/usr/share/applications.
Can you post your ~/.launcher/launcher.db ?

Elementary doesn't have any spacer concept (like GTK) yet. Hence the
flexible layout. Maybe I'll try the layout widget and see how that works
out. I was actually thinking of keeping the information icons (there's one
for notifications too) on the top line on the left - with the category
selector on the top line right.

Well, a combolist would suit this best. But since there isn't any, I'm using
a hover (I find that hoversel's are v slow). Each button is actually a
button and buttons fit text. So - the only way I know to get the sizes right
is to pad the names with spaces. That isn't such a nice way though - so I
looking for a safer solution.

  Anyone - any ideas?

Thanks Victor - but I really don't have the time right now to set up a dev

somewhere I can grab and install, I'd happily test it...

Yup, I'm using an empty notification area between the top row and the
buttons as of now. Bad hack! So things get pushed off the screen.
As far as the empty categories are concerned, the user can edit categories
and remove those he doesn't want. The new binary lets you do that. In fact
you can change the categories to whatever you want. Will release an updated
ipk today.

I will be altering the layout somewhat to get better positioning. Yes,
there ought to be space between the categories and the icons. I actually
wanted the icons on the left extreme and the category hover on the extreme
right.

Elementary does that to minimise space usage. I can pad the list with
spaces - but it may not be exact. Does any elementary guru have a better
idea?

All feeback / ideas welcome. This is not even alpha as of now. So go ahead
with your wishlists!

And Thanks for all the kind words :-)

Hello again

That was yesterday; I left it running and this morning turned on gprs
and unplugged the usb and did "apt-get install less" and it got it and
installed it.
but reverting to usb with gprs off I tried "apt-get update" and got
the same failure "Err http://pkg-fso.alioth.debian.org unstable
Release.gpg
  Temporary failure resolving 'pkg-fso.alioth.debian.org'"

and while I was writing that there are 2 new mails - from Arne and
reznor. Thank you both. i will try the later release before going any
further and it will be tonight as I need to leave for work soon. As
to the brackets being in already, that is a worry, I didn't see them
tho I hoped they might be there. So it is the usb via the PC that I
need to look at. If I get a chance I will try at work, but I have
never done it there. more later, thank you, clare

Me too. I like concept very much and think that it would be great thing

So keep good work, thanks.

I would prefer list of categories not to be centered on the screen. I
think left allign (but in the center, not left edge of the screen) would
be better. Or maybe the same size of buttons for any category? So big to

Re: Launcher/Home Page - proof of concept - release

2009-05-25 Thread Michael Zanetti
Hi,

Thanks for this app! It looks very promising on my SHR phone.

Here my first experiences:

Switching between categories works very fast. I noticed that switching to an
empty category sometimes moves the drop-down-list down so that one cannot
reach all entries.

The displaying of new sms and missed calls works well and also looks nice. It
would be great to insert some empty space between this and the categories.
Perhaps it would be even better using a new line for it.

It would be really great to have some sort of feedback when launching apps. I
always end up starting the apps twice.

It is not really multi tasking capable. IMHO it shouldn't wait for the started
apps.

Is it possible to make all entries in drop-down-lists the same width? I think
it would look way better. I also noticed this on other apps, so I think it's
an elm thing.

Its a great start. Keep it up!

Michael

Re: Launcher/Home Page (Proof of concept) Working Release

2009-05-25 Thread Warren Baird
Hi Miguel,

it's not super intuitive, but it is documented in the 'how do I get to
settings' and 'how do I get Illlume' sections of
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Paroli#FAQ - basically on the main page hold
the option button down for a few seconds to bring up the settings dialog,
and then under display hit 'profile' once to bring up the illume top-bar.

Then you can launch any applications you'd like from the illume panel.

Personally, I think it's a bit odd to have one launcher for all of your
other apps, and then the paroli main page as a 'launcher' for the
phone/sms/contacts page, but it sounds like people are working on fixing
that.

Fennec on TR4

2009-05-25 Thread Warren Baird
Has anyone managed to get Fennec working on OM2009 TR4? I tried the
version in the repository, and I was able to get it going and configured to
use my proxy at work (through usb networking) - but so far for every page
I've tried to visit (including google.com) it renders the page, and then
about a second or two later it crashes. when I run it from the terminal it
says 'illegal instruction'. I thought I might be running out of memory, but
I added a 128mb swap space on my sd card, and it didn't help.

Any suggestions for making it work?

Any other browsers people would recommend?

Re: Launcher/Home Page (Proof of concept) Working Release

2009-05-25 Thread Miguel Ángel Calderón
I yesterday gave it a try to last testing image of paroli om 2009 and It was
fast and
clean, and telephony functionalities worked quite well, however, I didn't
find how to
launch other applications?

By your message I understand that paroli has got this kind of feature, is it
right?
could you give me a clue of how to find and use it?

Best regards...

P.S: I didn't send a feed back to the list because I couldn't do a deep test
so my
contribution would not have said anything else new...

Why can't we send i.e. 4 freerunner from one city in one box, order 4
reworks and get 4 batteries ?
I don't know why we need to send them seperately for our free batteries.

Help with gstreamer for python needed

2009-05-25 Thread Andreas Hennig
Hi All!

Does one of you have expirience with gstreamer?
I use gstreamer for my music player pyRok. Initialy it works fine but after a
while it locks up and i don't see a reason.
There is no error message ot something. The music just stops.
I compared pyRok with pythm but i cant see any difference regarding gstreamer.
PyRok uses pygame as UI. Maybe pygame interfeares with gstreamer somehow...

Maybe somebody have an idea...

The angle brackets were already in actually. Try the "123" button.

Concerning the apt-get problem, maybe you should try another mirror.

I recommend also to use the latest 5.6 image, as it was apt-get upgraded
just yesterday.

hmm, that's interesting.. I wasn't aware of this deal (free battery for

components for the buzz fixes.

I can ask Openmoko if I can get the batteries for the buzz fixes I've

will ship directly to you because of the overhead involved.

How to fix a broken AUX button ?

2009-05-25 Thread Philippe Lhardy
Hi,

I am looking for a way to fix my Neo FreeRunner that felt badly on the floor.
AUX button was not soldered anymore and i definitely broke the button
by trying to glue it.
soldering is too small for me and i don't have right piece to fix it
and i am not good at that stuff either.
I am ready to invest 40 euros ( if it less, then its for you. ) to get
that button working again (ie getting piece + soldering done ).
I am in french riviera area.
I was wondering if it could be done together with a debuzzing session
( if needed ).

Re: Om2009 testing release 4

2009-05-25 Thread Rui Miguel Silva Seabra
I'm sure it's not, AFAICT (since I don't know Parloi's internals) it doesn't
touch anything Paroli or anything related to calls.

As for your problem with landscape vs portrait positions and GUIs... well,
that's
a problem that's not easy to solve unless all applications pay attention to
a specific dbus signal which omnewrotate will send in the future.

This signal can be used by apps so they adjust their UI according to the
display mode, but other than that, they all think they're in the same position.

Re: Launcher/Home Page (Proof of concept) Working App Release 0.11

2009-05-25 Thread c_c

Hi,
Well I agree with Mirko Lindner. Illume should ideally handle all this by
itself. And then that becomes the universal solution too.
On one of these threads, Raster said he was looking at cleaning up Illume.
I guess he hasn't gotten around to doing that.
I'm looking at this as a ty solution, but as we've seen with the software
here, sometimes ty solutions are all we have.

I've taken a look at Illume's code, and I don't really understand a lot of
it. But from what I gather, in order to handle categories and a separate
home screen - Illume will need some changes. While I'm wiling to spend time
hacking about on Illume, I thought an interim solution was needed. And
that's how this app got made. Actually, I'm reusing a lot of the code I'd
written for my tasks app - so I got to do this in 2 days.
Now, if the community feels this app is fine - I'll continue programming.
Anyways, I've gotten a few ideas here that I can use for the Illume hack.

Also, SHR can use this right away, since they don't have any launcher. And
as the name suggests, this was meant to be more of a SHR specific solution -
but it does have its uses elsewhere too :-).

Re: Om2009 testing release 4

2009-05-25 Thread Warren Baird
Rui - I'm not sure if omnewrotate was causing the general unstability - but
I do think it was probably what caused me to miss the call. I had another
experience with epdfview where when I held the FR horizontally I had to
click about 1.5 cm to the right of the 'next page' button to get it to
actually go to the next page. After holding it vertically and then
horizontally again, it was fine.

I think I might try TR4 again with a manual screen rotater and see if I have
better luck.

I love the big clock on Paroli's main screen (even when it's redundant
with the one on the top panel).

The launcher in paroli is kind of its disregarded stepchild as I
personally don't like the idea of having the illume launcher plus
another one on top.
A while ago there was also a thread about all this. I still dont see a
reason for a second launcher and would rather like to see an action to
adapt the illume launcher. This would also mean that it would be
universal regardless of the phone-app used.

So c_c how about an illume plugin that allows to communicate with the
edje object of the filemanager that displays the illume launcher?

I would gladly work on the edc files needed for all this and drop the
paroli launcher. However still retaining the big clock or provide an
easy way to switch it on or off.

My 2 cents as they they.

I don't think Paroli should have a launcher, but that's just me :) I'd rather
Paroli focused on becoming a good conectivity/telephony/pim application.

But the current launcher only shows .desktop files in /usr/share/applications/
and doesn't pay attention to the Category information.

That Category field is (I think) specified in
http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apa.html

So the desktop launcher should:
1 create "tabs" (or something else) per category
(because you just need it to separate and spare screen real estate)

2 be able to show only selected categories from the list of defined categories
(because the number can quickly grow too large for the screen)

I like the look, BTW, based on the screenshot.. Haven't tried installing
it yet, since I've temporarily (I hope) gone back to QtE...

I had been envisioning something similar for a new Paroli UI. I'd like to
see the date on the page somewhere (could be in the top bar). I'd also like
a way to get at my 'favorite' or 'recently used' apps directly from the home
page.

Good work.

Press the AUX button during the call and it'll change the volume of
your loudspeaker in 20-40-60-80-100% (I recommend you use 40-60-80 as

yes, there is, and it works for me. in paroli, using testing 4, hold the

GPRS variables can be set under there (APN is the provider, or more

GPRS and "incall" volume adjustment OM2009 and hackable?!

2009-05-25 Thread Steffen Winkler
Hi there,

for me, hackable is quite useable, but I've got two questions, that are
also affecting OM2009: Is there a graphical setting application with
which I can activate and configure (passwd, username and provider) GPRS?

I haven't found something like that in hackable (even going through the
config files as descripted in
http://blondon.fr/blog/index.php?post/2009/05/21/hackable%
3A1-rev4-and-the-gprs doesn't work, I get no error, but I can't ping
anything) and for OM2009 I only found a notice, that it will be
implemented at the end of March ->
http://lists.openmoko.org/nabble.html#nabble-td2410042|a2410042.

But march is over, so is there a GUI for GPRS settings?

And now the second question: Voice adjustment during a call. In
hackable, there is a slider for this, but it doesn't seem to do anything
functional?!

In OM2009, if I read the wiki page correct, there is already such a
thing. But for what is it? Is it the adjustment of my microphone, or the
adjustment of my speakers? Or both?

Oh and, is OM2009 as fast as hackable? (scrolling, starting
applications...)

Hi,
Well - usage intructions are fairly simple.

Start it up, click on the settings icon next to the home button and change
wallpaper or set up application categories. Home is a category too. So you
can choose to have as many and whichever applications on the home page as
you wish.
Will be out with a version that allows editing categories soon.

I found that as well. Is anyone able to comment on what HAL is being used for
in SHR-Unstable? If it's simply been pulled in as a dependency (e.g. for
X.org) and isn't actively being used (e.g. by X.org for input management),
then it can be removed without breaking anything, which makes the problem go
away.

Launcher/Home Page - proof of concept - release

2009-05-25 Thread c_c

Hi,
Well, seeing as there scope for having a decent launcher / home page, I
thought I'll make one. The result - launcher is written in C and uses sqlite
and elementary. It works, provides some needed features and lacks a few.

 Features

 * Missed call indication
 * New SMS indication
 * Ability to set own wallpaper
 * Categorise applications and see them in categories

 Missing (but planned)

 * better placement of icons
 * launching feedback
 * notification dbus service
 * notification area

Help Needed

 * artwork
 * elementary related (layout mainly)
 * dbus service (maybe discuss on ML)
 * c based framework for adding widgets

Any other Ideas / Suggestions.

Re: om on flow

2009-05-25 Thread Thomas Gstädtner
i'm highly interested on the flow. it does everything better than the
neo (well documented high end cpu, perfectly documented 7 band modem).
the question is how it performs as a phone (battery, sound). and of
course it's a little bulky and expensive.

My experience is that holding the volume adjustable by AUX during call
in values lower than 80(%) work good without echo. 100% will cause the
echo to appear.

It's been done by using the (not so hidden) AT%N
AdaptiveEchoCancellation&noisegate command. Too high feedback volume from
earpiece to mic - especially when distorted (and so not exactly identical to
the output signal) - may confuse AEC though.

That is sad, that we still didn't reach that, I had high hopes :) But
thatnks for the observations and I hope we can turn OM09 into an

Agreed. We are currently working on this. Thanks to Laszlo the design
files get more attention now and we are straightening out certain
problems. Having a response on button click is a high priority.

Will try to create a way to show status messages when the interface is
not responsive.

I just uploaded changes that enable just that. I hope this is what you
meant. (it also works for items in SMS and Call-Log)

This is an issue happening in several places in paroli. The interface is
very honest in the sense that it only shows what actually happened. Of
course this means that changes are visible a bit later than in other
interfaces. Should this paradigm be changed?

The relates to the last point. Paroli could remove the call window as
soon as the user ends the call and it could also stop all sounds and
just don't worry whether or not the call is actually ended.

I agree sth has to change here, which way is better

a) showing that the call is ending and keeping the call window until the
call is actually ended

or

b) closing the window right away and letting the user move on before the
call is actually finsished

Is there a c) ?

That one goes on my black-list. I brought some odd behavior back into
paroli over the last few weeks. I will focus on getting rid of those again.

try internal. HAL is finding 3 "batteries" which 2 of them are always empty,
so charge of bat is always a third of correct value ((100% + 0% + 0%) / 3)

I think this largely depends on state of main battery charger unit in PMU. If
it's charging bat with Constant Voltage (~4.16V) from a 500mA or 1A source
(host or OM-wallcharger) then the modem should happily survive a short period
without bat - at least if it's not trying to send during this period (active
cell handover, SMS, inbound call).
OTOH if modem draws *too less current* (maybe related to sleep4 vs sleep2),
MBC might decide to stop charging and cut the CV, leading to a glitch in
modem's VDD and thus resetting it. It's very difficult to predict what's
actually going to happen (just only guarantee is nothing will break), so I
would recommend shutting down GSM prior to bat swap - alas this doesn't seem
to work on SHR ATM.

With QtEI I am currently recharging every other day (except when it
occasionally fails to autosuspend, which a reboot fixes) so remembering to
charge during the day would be a pain (and not always possible). :-(

Talking to a friend of mine at work who has an Android dev phone from the US

don't know if the same will apply with it on a FR.

Perhaps it's because I'm in Australia but I've never experienced the buzz

That's exactly why I dislike all this opkg stuff so much, the repos are
scattered all about the net and not even all projects listed on opkg have
their most recent packages there but somewhere else, thus one has to pull
them by hand instead of being done with adding opkg.org as a repository.

This is *NOT* a bug :) Finally the alsa state file for gsmhandset got fixed in
the om svn. And this is why it is now in latest SHR and paroli images.

The default volume is put on max, which is obviously to high. And because it
is depending on personal taste and the location your in (think doing a phone

Any plans on cooperation between projects?

Personally I'm not so interested in FLOW as in smartphone (I already got

iron out one day) but if they'll extend variety of available modules I'd
love to have a book reader with e-ink screen capable of connecting to
