Hi, One question: Do you only consider upgrades of existing Freerunners or would a complete phone also be an option? Depending on the total price of the GTA04, I would be quite interested in one unit (replacing my current FreeRunner). 20 Euros is a no-brainer from my perspective - considering that otherwise I would have to fiddle with the installation myself, or send in my current FreeRunner. I'm not quite comfortable with the first option, and the second might cost more than 20 Euros and will leave me without a phone for some time. 50 Euros still sound ok to me. Hi John, All, Just upgraded from 2008.9. Things to mention: - Boot time decreased. A lot! Thumbs up and a great "Thank you" for that :) - Also, startup time for applications (dialer) seems to have decreased. - As mentioned elsewhere, Enlightenment configuration was reset to not show the spanner and as the settings utility is unusable and the phone tends to suspend after 31 seconds, it is pretty unusable until one switches Enlightenment themes according to http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Keyboard_Toggle (bottom of the page). - Even after disabling suspend I am having problems. In particular I am now experiencing WSoD even after screen blank (probably bug #2115: https://docs.openmoko.org/trac/ticket/2115 ). I suppose I need to disable screen blank too for now? Nevertheless, even though there are problems it's good to see progress. Keep up the good work. Hi Wolfgang, I tend to disagree here. IMHO good communication with the community is an important thing to have - and the community updates did that very well. From a user point of view it was very encouraging to read these reports. They told me two things: a) People at OM are working on important issues. Without telling the community that work would have been invisible. b) They gave an approximation of what to expect in an update to testing or in the next stable release. There certainly is some value in status updates. Without them you risk that important fixes will go unnoticed and users get the impression that improvement is too slow. Apart from that, thanks for your update. It's sad to hear that the next stable release is still half a year away, but I'd rather have that news now and actually I'm even more excited now about FSO :) Just a few more questions to make things clear: As I see the situation, OM2008.9 will remain the official stable release until the switch to FSO around mid next year. Testing has some updates but will not culminate eventually into a stable release and will remain without further updates from now on. Is that correct? Will there be an upgrade path from OM2008.9 to OM2009 or will the upgrade require reflashing? If there won't be an upgrade path, will there be an upgrade path from FSO instead? I dabbled with avahi some time ago and if I remember correctly the command you are searching for is avahi-browse (which is included in the avahi-utils package). You'll easily find a manpage for it on the net. avahi-discover does the same thing, but with a GUI. I'm not sure about the functionality of the libraries, but I suppose you could also use either them or the avahi DBUS interface to achieve whatever you want (probably more efficient than doing everything on the commandline). I used an age-old Nokia phone (I think it was a 3510 - ca. 2002) until I got my Freerunner this summer. Unless something unforeseen happens, next summer the two Neos will _still_ be the only fully opensource smartphones out there. Outdated or not - there is no competition. Second, my understanding was that GTA03 is not yet created but only planned at this stage. Hearing that not even the OM engineers have it yet, I'd not expect gta03 before the next stable release. Hi. First, let me say - this is SOOO cool. Congratulations for such a great port :) Unfortunately, I also get the "Unknown Multivec" error on 2008.8. There is no pulseaudio running (not even installed). Furthermore, according to lsof, /dev/dsp is not in use by any application (and the process list also doesn't turn up with anything immediately suspicious). Possibly there is another problem then? Anyway, this game is even great without sound - though I will miss Duke's voice for sure :) NOBODY STEALS OUR CHICKS... Timing issue
Hi all, Does anyone else have the problem of the internal clock being off by a few hours after rebooting the device? It seems to happen randomly to me (I have not yet determined a definite cause for it) - but sometimes after a reboot, the time on the phone is 2h earlier than it should be. I'd suspect some inconsistency with the timezone, but it hasn't changed and is still displayed correctly (Germany/Berlin). Has anyone else experienced this? GSM Firmware crash

Is this a known bug? I would open a bug in trac, but I don't have much info about the crash - it seemed to happen just randomly (I was carrying the phone in my pocket when it started to vibrate). Unfortunately I fear I've also b0rked the logs, as I restarted the phone immediately. I needed phone functionality and wasn't in reach of a computer at that time. So - anyone else experienced this? Hi Glen, I think the relevant ringtones are in /opt/Qtopia/etc/SystemRingTones/ - there are two .wav files in there: phonering.wav and alarm.wav. I tried to change the default ringtone a while back, but had problems with extremly laggy sound. However, that may be due to the size of the ringtone I wanted to have. Hi Matthias, I think on the default keyboard, a swipe to the right will put the numbers on top and a swipe to the left will delete numbers. However, you may be more happy with a different keyboard - see http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Keyboard_Debate I'd recommend the keyboard that comes with illume-config (Rasters keyboard, I think). There is a mod available somewhere on this list that will ease entering numbers without a stylus. Hi, I've also seen this bug and I've also tracked it down to OMNewRotate. My solution so far was to always disable rotation before going into suspend. Not doing so seems to give a chance of (almost?) 100% failure. Note, that I keep the freerunner strapped in a horizontal position to my belt - so during suspend it will almost certainly be rotated, unless rotate has been switched off. Interestingly there seems to be a step before the pink line is shown: Sometimes when I boot and do not enter the PIN immediately (but still before suspend), the screen is partly garbled (lower 33% of the screen in portrait mode). After suspend, the pink line shows up. Listening to the feeling in my gut, I'd say glamo b0rks screen setup when in a rotated position. Hope this helps to narrow it down. Meanwhile - is there a way to disable OMNewRotate on boot and suspend (i.e. to only enable it manually)?
