Re: Buy WikiReader [was: WikiReader]
All, I spent the whole morning trying to get international fixed-rates from USPS for global shipping, but there is a downside, as there always is: a) standard shipments can take 10-20 days b) there are NO tracking numbers provided by USPS The flat rate is $18.95 usd. I think this is especially reasonable compared to some of the prices in UPS (those of you who bought phones from us in the beginning know exactly what I'm talking about). These rates are available now and Sean tells me we just updated the site so: http://thewikireader.com/store Help yourself :) And when you DO buy one, please make sure to post back to this list the actual time it took you to get your package. That would help everyone out a lot on actual shipping times. Again, thanks for not being patient and kicking our butts when something's missing. No, I was not being sarcastic. People were saying their 'thank you goodbyes' so I wanted to clarify that we are still here, and there is lots of work to do. I do not know Sven and I never saw him in the office, but he has every right to interpret and share what he heard. Yes, there were layoffs. There are just enough people remaining to keep things going (literally) and Sean chose to do so over shutting everything down. Please try to see things from that perspective instead of siding with the more negative aspects. Tomorrow, what remains of us, will go to work and continue to deliver solid FR hardware, provide re-work solutions and run servers for our customers. If you feel that is not enough than please jump in and get your hands dirty. The idea of an open phone started out as a revolution -- now pick up your sticks and fight if you want it to happen. 14th Community Update released
Hello lists! Welcome to the 14th community update, covering March 6th ~ 20th, 2009. As always, there was no shortage of news in the past weeks. Distributions including Om2009, Android and Qt Extended Improved all received their share of updates. The first Openmoko Programming Competition, hosted by Aapo Rantalainen and Risto H. Kurppa, was announced and the winner will now get a prize provided by the community, currently at 314€ and a leather case for Freerunner (39€)! A week later, a second contest was announced by Rakshat Hooja, where the current bounty stands at 125€. Discussions continued on the subjects of cool chess games, browsers on the Neo, and of course, keyboards (we love our keyboards), and much more. Be sure to check the newsletter available with links at: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Community_Updates/March_20%2C_2009 Cheers, Will ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Neo FreeRunner on FLOSS Manuals
We've started migrating content from the Om wiki to our, soon to be, official FreeRunner manual on FLOSS Manuals. Yeah! We just got our account set up so its still a work in progress, but we hope to get some speed over the next week: http://en.flossmanuals.net/bin/view/NeoFreeRunner/WebHome Basis for the manual will be derived from two already functional sections in the wiki: * Getting Started With Your Neo FreeRunner http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Getting_Started_with_your_Neo_FreeRunner * Openmoko Developer Guide http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Openmoko_developer_guide Right now we're only focused on the starter guide, developer guide will come later. We invite all of you to join us, or simply drop by and give tips or suggestions. More updates to come later.. Special thanks goes out to Adam Hyde for his blessing. If you don't already know about his site and what they're about: http://en.flossmanuals.net/ go check it out. Some serious work going on there ;) Will ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Openmoko Om 2008.8 Release
Dear Community, We are proud to announce the release of Om 2008.8 for public reviewing. It represents our current state of development over the last 6 months. We came a long way before achieving this milestone. Here is what you can expect: - A stable and working phone stack realized by using Qtopia. - A new and flexible window manager [Illume] that broadens our support for the different graphic libraries, including GTK+ and more. - The whole system software has been reworked which leads to a very fast and reliable suspend & resume, LED control and power management. - A graphical frontend [Installer] for package management as installing, removing or updating applications via repositories. - Also included is an application which combines GPS and SMS [Locations] for easy sharing of locations among friends. For detailed information about Om 2008.8 (including instructions, references and currently known issues) check out our wiki at: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Om_2008.8 Please consider this a next step towards an open end user ready mobile platform. We are not there yet but we will continue working towards that direction. We invite you to install our latest release and give feedback: http://downloads.openmoko.org/releases/Om2008.8/Om2008.8.rootfs.jffs2 http://downloads.openmoko.org/releases/Om2008.8/Om2008.8.uImage.bin Soon after our release we will publish frequent snapshots of our builds to give you the possibility to follow our development and latest fixes. You can join forces with our QA team by submitting bug reports and/or patches to make the platform as robust as possible. We are excited about this release and look forward to moving together towards upcoming milestones. ARE_YOU_SURE emails are for pre-checkbox orders. -Will On Jul 24, 2007, at 5:55 PM, Justyn Butler wrote: I had to make a change to my order after the ARE_YOU_SURE emails were sent out so I canceled it and made a new one. At that point the order process had a checkbox saying "I have been warned!" I didn't get an ARE_YOU_SURE email for the new order - I assume the checkbox was in place of this, and orders like mine will still be processed. Could I get some confirmation of this please? Re: Order related inquiries
I hate to sound angry and impatient but what I'd like to know is why you aren't processing orders based on RT numbers. I kind of busted my ass to make sure I had one of the first orders in and I got order number 1843. We are processing orders based on RT numbers. Now, even though it should be first come first serve, I'm being told I need to wait until next week. Again, sorry if I come off as being rude and impatient but it's just the way I see it. No need to apologize, it makes perfect sense. Let me check your ticket and get back to you. -Will On Jul 24, 2007, at 4:23 PM, Richard Reichenbacher wrote: I hate to sound angry and impatient but what I'd like to know is why you aren't processing orders based on RT numbers. Re: Store info - shipping costs, credit card support
Well that should mean that I probably have it end of the week? Can't wait!! Please remember, the phones are still going through customs in Suzhou China. Our original projected shipping date is July 16th. Depending how smooth the phones get through customs, this could be pushed back a day or two. We hope all of you can understand. Re: 11 Lanuages :) Re: Wikipedia update
At last the list of translated wikipedia articles could grow with (Afrikaans),Hebrew,(Japanese) and Turkish. Hello, I`ve taken the liberty of translating the OM wikipedia to Japanese, but do not know how to upload it. Could someone kindly tell me the process? Can i simply `add` a language to the existing english page? Or must I start from scratch on the Japanese wikipedia? Thanks. ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
