Deseperately need some GTA02 debug board cable...

2012-06-20 Thread Denis 'GNUtoo' Carikli
Hi,

my debug board cable again broke...

With the debug board I was able to send some patches upstream like:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commit;h=ad20ff920c1fd217578e2c637dd50c1878a21c06
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commit;h=b2ccf065f7b23147ed135a41b01d05a332ca6b7e
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commit;h=b26469a8b139fba11d9336c1c117fafccfa9c7d5
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commit;h=1ae5cbc52e7c6619a3f44b87809fd25370df31bb

I was also able to produce updated
kernels( https://gitorious.org/shr/linux/commits/shr-2.6.39-nodrm
shr-3.x-nodrm branches ) for the gta02 but I didn't have enough time to
fix all the bugs yet so they are not in use yet...

The big problem is that It's way harder to track bugs without a debug
board cable: with a debug board you can git bisect in a way more
efficient way: you only need to apply a minimal set of patches on top of
the commit you're testing...since you have serial you can see the output
and interact with the phone...

So Instead of finding or buying one debug board each time my cable break
again I think it's way more efficient to get some cables-only.

Does someone gives or sell such cables separately?

Note(for the person selling/giving such cables) that the debug board
itself still can be used separately from an openmoko: it is possible to
use it as a BIOS flasher
( http://flashrom.org/FT2232SPI_Programmer#Openmoko ),serial port
adapter or JTAG adapter...

Denis.

how to use JTAG on debug board ?

2010-10-27 Thread Harald Koenig
Hi OM developers,

I'd like to use the OM debug board v3 for JTAG connection to my GTA02.
I found

  http://people.openmoko.org/werner/openocd.cfg
on
  http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/openmoko-kernel/2008-January/000708.html

but this file does not work for any openocd release version I was able to find
(I tried 0.1.0, 0.2.0, 0.3.1, 0.4.0 and git head).

up to version 0.3.1 it "only" has this error

   invalid command name "daemon_startup_attach"

and many warnings about lots of deprecated commands.
even the oldest availabe version 0.1.0 already complains about jtag_speed:

   jtag_speed: 8
OLD SYNTAX: DEPRECATED - translating to new syntax

which does not work anymore at all in 0.4.0 and newer...

where can I find/get an openocd.cfg file for the GTA02 for a recent version of
openocd ?

thanks for any pointers how to get started with the debug board these days!!

yes, that is why we placed a 20pin standard ARM-JTAG connector and a RS232 @
3.3V header footprint on the board. You should be able to use it with anything
that needs ARM-JTAG and/or RS232 at 3.3V levels

I see H-TP7711 under the LCM and it's entirely different TP. You need
H-TP4711, located right under the debug board connector.

Looks right to me. Probably it'd be safer to short it while FR is
turned off. But beware, it is on your own risk.

So according to schematics, there is NOR WP pin at H-TP4711. The component
placement sheet shows it as T-HP7711, as there are no 4711s(hardware
revision?). What I need is to short this pin to the ground while my Neo is
running, and run the flash script. Is that correct? Seems easy enough.

FYI you don't need a debug board to flash NOR if you can already boot
your FR. It's a matter of shorting one easily accessible TP to the

Debug board for non-neo devices

2009-07-28 Thread Atilla Filiz
Hi
My Neo FR came with blank Nor and there seems no one close to me to help me
flash it, so I decided to buy a debug board. I'm not planning to do any low
level debugging on neo, but may use UART/JTAG for other devices. Is the
board handy for other devices? Did anyone use it for any non-neo device? Can
this be used with GP2X(assuming I can take care of wiring) so I don't need a
pc with parallel port?

Happy hacking

Debug board for sale

2009-07-27 Thread Steve " 'dillo" Okay (Roadknight Mobility Labs)
I bought a debug board with my FR in Jan 2009. I think I took it out
of the anti-static bag once and that's it.
Other than that, it's been sitting there. I don't even remember
booting it once.
I've got too many other projects demanding too much attention to make
use of it any time soon.
Said projects are also demanding $$$, so I really don't want to donate
it.
I'd prefer to sell it locally here in the SF Bay Area, but would
entertain other options if somebody really wanted it.

You get:
Debug board
standoffs
screwdriver
USB mini "B" cable.
in original box/packing.

$85 OBO

I wonder would the openmoko release this? Similar to the footprint and
netlist of GTA02 for the GTA02 Core.
Thank you.

Debug board to borrow

2009-03-03 Thread Atilla Filiz
My FR has a blank NOR, so I am unable to change my bootloader and have to
live with the fear of bricking it. I don't want to pay €100 for the debug
board just because OM sent me a faulty device. So I am asking if someone
near Eindhoven(Netherlands) has the debug board and willing to help me flash
my NOR. I found someone from the University but somehow we lost contact. My
offer is treating a lunch in exchange for helping with his/her debug board
to flash my FR.

For the rest of people, sorry for bothering you.

Exactly. It is not the CPU frequency but the RF receiver/transmitter.

There are two models of the GTA02 (see

* North America: 850/1800/1900 MHz
* Rest of World: 900/1800/1900 MHz

New Golden Delicious Offer: Freerunner now 279 EUR - debug board 49 EUR

2009-02-06 Thread Dr. H. Nikolaus Schaller
Hi all,
I just want to let you know that we (Golden Delicious and our partner
TRIsoft) have been able to reduce our price for the Freerunner to
support as many free and open source projects as possible (FOSDEM
starts tomorrow...).

The new price tags are:

* Neo Freerunner GTA02 900MHz (incl. headset, pouch and laser-pen):
279 EUR
* Debug Baord v3: 49 EUR
* Letux 400 (wireless keyboard and display): 199 EUR
* Invisible Shield: 18,90 EUR
* other accessories: please see our web page below

We have a volume rebate program starting at 5 units. And an
educational rebate. So find friends and think about new open source
projects. We provide you with the equipment you need. But hurry up, as
supply of this offer is limited.

Finally, we are interested in finding MacOS X developers (Cocoa) who
own a Freerunner and want to do cool things with both.

Happy Freerunning,
Nikolaus Schaller

I would look at the flat cable carefully, the gold fingers at both ends
and the neck where it widens. First my flat cable cracked at one edge
cutting the fingers, then it tore at the neck. Then I got a new one :-)

The flat cable solution is pretty evil, but there doesn't seem to be
much chance of improving it because it's not exactly an enduser feature
and it's expensive to put the FTDI on the main board.

But I curse that flat cable more than once a week myself.

LED5 lights on TX action of serial console, I guess LED7 is TX action

So, I updated my software to libftdi 0.8 and openocd r130,
without success.

I could borrow a multimeter today.
The fpc cable is good, the connector on the debug board seems good.
Testing the neo side gives stranges results.

The first test I made, was to verify contacts between the 45pins
on the cable and the h-tp150[23458] dots on the neo pcb. It worked
 once.

Then I unplugged the cable, made various tests with both side
(un)plugged. There is continuity between the connectors (wire on the
white plastic), but the h-tp150* dots didn't beep again.

I didn't succeed anymore with the first test.

Then, I try to use openocd, and notice that the neo screen flashes less
often. So the connector on the neo pcb seem's dead :(

I didn't have tools to make electronics and soldier wires to h-tp150*
dots, so I wonder if someone had already got success with scotch and
small copper wire ? wiring these dots to the 20 pins empty connector of
the debug board ?

Debug board v3 and neo1973 (gta01)

2009-01-28 Thread Frederic Leroy
Hello,

I can't make openocd work with my neo.
I checked carefully cables, use several usb port and have
mainly test with a self-powered hub.
When I plug the usb cable in the debug board or launch openocd, the
screen of the neo flashes white. Sometimes, it just stay white when
plugging the board on the pc.
Is-it a good behaviour ?

I try to use openocd with this configuration, and tried with changing
speed to 0,4,8 :

telnet_port
gdb_port
interface ft2232
jtag_speed 0
ft2232_vid_pid 0x1457 0x5118
ft2232_layout "jtagkey"
reset_config trst_and_srst
jtag_device 4 0x1 0xf 0xe
daemon_startup attach
target arm920t little reset_run 0 arm920t
working_area 0 0x20 0x4000 backup
run_and_halt_time 0 5000

You can found the output of openocd here :
http://pastebin.com/m2e2b52b9

The version of openocd I tried was the ubuntu one, and the static one
made by bitbake with the fso-makefile configuration.

I have a v2 (Neo1973) debug board in Vancouver, but you shouldn't need

I haven't read all of the previous messages in this thread so someone

  - Reboot into NAND u-boot, then enter the u-boot console
  - Execute "dynpart", "dynenv set u-boot_env", "saveenv" to set up the

  - Reboot into NAND u-boot again

I have a v2 (Neo1973) debug board in Vancouver, but you shouldn't need
it if you have a Freerunner with a working NOR u-boot.

I haven't read all of the previous messages in this thread so someone
else might have already said this, but I would:
  - Boot into NOR u-boot
  - Erase the NAND ("nand erase" or "nand createbbt")
  - Exit from the u-boot console
  - Flash a new u-boot ("dfu-util -R -a u-boot -D /path/to/u-boot.bin")
  - Reboot into NAND u-boot, then enter the u-boot console
  - Execute "dynpart", "dynenv set u-boot_env", "saveenv" to set up the
default environment variables
  - Reboot into NAND u-boot again
  - Download a new kernel + rootfs with dfu-util
  - Fix up the rest of your environment variables through the u-boot
console.

Debug Board in Vancouver, BC

2009-01-04 Thread Vasili Sviridov
Hello All,

Since both my previous posts haven't helped me to fix my phone looks
like I need to devirginate it. Unfortunately I do not have the debug
board, and paying $100 + shipping is a bit steep for just one thing to do.

Is there anyone in Vancouver, BC that has one and willing to help me to
get my Moko working - please respond.

Thanks,
Vasili.

debug board seems not working

2008-10-28 Thread Lin Mac

hi,

I'm using Freerunner and debug board v3, and trying to use serial console, and
Ubuntu 8.04 on my PC.

I have connected the FR and the debug board with the flexible cable. The
/dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1 doesn't show up, but only /dev/ttyACM0, when I
connected both USB of freerunner and debug board to PC, as described in
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Debug_Board_v3.

1. Should the /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1 show up while no FR connected to
debug board (and the debug board connected to PC)?
2. Should I flash the debug board?
Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

I do have a debug board that came with the neo1973. I don't know if it is
compatible with the freerunner? I do live in Eindhoven though.

2008-09-30 Thread Atilla Filiz
Hello,
My FR suffers from the factory defect that my NOR is blank. I need a debug
board to program it which I don't have and don't want to pay €100 just to
use once.
I am looking for someone who can help me, preferably around Eindhoven. Here
is the deal:
- I bring my FR, laptop and necessary software.
- You bring the board.
- I treat you a lunch while we flash my NOR.

299 is only a pretty estimate -- just below 300.
but the webpage states that real prices&co only are available _after_ the

I guess that there are many things which let the price raise.
61€ + 19% vat = 73€
Then you have to add shipping to germany. And in germany you have to
grant a warranty of at least 24 month for technical equipment. Usually
Christoph Pulster has fair prices.

Do not confuse USD with EUR.
 $99 ==  €61
€149 == $238

Hi,
I don't think that is an error: also if Openmoko sell it at 99$, it must
to arrive in europe, than you must to add VAT (20% ?) that you have to
add environmental taxes, and to add warranty (1 year at least).

So is very possible it cost so. And in every case it cost less that all

Looking for debug board near Hildesheim/Germany

2007-10-09 Thread Ortwin Regel
Well, it had to happen sooner or later. I thought it might be a good idea to
try different u-boot versions to get around my little dual boot problem. It
wasn't. My Neo doesn't want to power on anymore. So is there anyone who can
fix my Neo with their fancy debug board reasonably near Hildesheim? I'd
rather drive over personally than send the thing via post if it can be
avoided.

Unfortunately I don't know if I'll have easy internet access down there and
of course I won't have a phone... :P

debug board problem

2007-09-20 Thread root
Hello,

I want to use debug board, so I insert ftdi_sio module in PC
(modprobe ftdi_sio vendor=0x1457 product=0x5118).

Now it can use correctly in u_boot(input/output), it can also print
kernel messages,

but can not input after kernel boot.

Any suggestion?

it is 3.3V cmos logic so NO RS-232 levels.

you could use that board you linked to connect to the serial console of
a moko, i think. at least in theory because you still need to build an
adapter for the fpc. and supply it with 3.3V (the specs of the brainstem
say it can be used with 3.3V)

you just need to keep in mind that the serial is getting switched on and
off by GSM_EN and some latches on the debug board.

if you need to access the serial of the ftdi via the 2.54mm spacing port
( J10 ) the pinout is as follows:

1 TXD
2 RXD
3 RTS
4 CTS
5 DSR
6 DTR
7 DCD
8 RI
9 GND
10 VCC (3.3V)

remember, this is the port B of the ftdi2232D so the mapping is
BDBUS0-BDBUS7 pin 1 to pin 8

to get a serial from your linux kernel do this:

modprobe ftdi_sio vendor=0x1457 product=0x5118

then you get 2 serial of which one will vanish as soon as you start
openocd to use portA as jtag

J1 on the debug board is JTAG in regular arm 20pin out

Debug Board JTAG Programming with openocd

2007-08-13 Thread Kyle Bassett
I have been unable to coerce my Neo to charge batteries, so I have a feeling
it has to do with the uboot image I flashed. Should I manually charge the
batteries some other way? or continue trying to reflash the original uboot
revision? (Can you even use the debug board if the battery is dead?)

My current uboot revision:
u-boot-gta01bv4-r11_e80955f07de03fef0196353e77534b2300193c1c_0_2348.bin

What I am trying to do right now is get up and running with openocd, but I
cannot get around this one error:

# openocd -f /etc/openocd/openocd.cfg
Info:openocd.c:84 main(): Open On-Chip Debugger (2007-01-31 12:00 CET)
Error: jtag.c:1181 jtag_examine_chain(): JTAG communication failure, check
connection, JTAG interface, target power etc.

I know this means that it has found the debug board, but I am unsure what I
should do to initialize the phone. (Simple as power?)

I have my Neo wired up to the debug board, (2.7v) dead battery inside.

Here are the steps I used to get where I am on Debian Etch:
-
moved 099_neo1973_debugboard.rules to /etc/udev/rules.d

compiled/installed libusb-0.1.12
compiled/installed libftdi-0.10

add file usr-lib.conf to /etc/ld.so.conf.d/
insert line /usr/local/lib
run ldconfig

compiled/installed openocd from svn:
svn co -r 137 http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/openocd/trunk openocd_137
./bootstrap
./configure --enable-parport_ppdev --enable-ft2232_libftdi
make; su; make install

made /etc/openocd/openocd.cfg with:
telnet_port
gdb_port
interface ft2232
jtag_speed 0
ft2232_vid_pid 0x1457 0x5118
ft2232_layout "jtagkey"
reset_config trst_and_srst
jtag_device 4 0x1 0xf 0xe
daemon_startup attach
target arm920t little reset_run 0 arm920t
working_area 0 0x20 0x4000 backup
run_and_halt_time 0 5000
ft2232_device_desc "Debug Board for Neo1973"

-

Debug board and "Advanced" accessories

2007-07-06 Thread Justyn Butler

It's been asked before but I didn't see a conclusive answer.

Will the extra gear, like the debug board, being sold with the GTA01B_v4
Advanced set definitely be the same as will be sold with the GTA02 Advanced?
I'd like to get the 01 Advanced then just buy the 02 Base, without missing
out on anything in the 02 Advanced.

Also, what are the chances of the debug connector being standard (ie
compatible) across future FIC OpenMoko phones?

I really like the design. I was expecting a MAX232 and connector
breakouts. For not much more work you have something much more functional.

One warning though: Those connectors are rated for 20 insertions. They
get sloppy/fiddly real quick.

A debug board would have 2 main uses for me:

1) a serial console so you can debug problems with X or initscripts
2) access to jtag so you fix the bootloader if something went wrong with uboot

A 'regular user' should never need 2) and 1) can be done with usb-ethernet
